Do you know the Fimber cabin about a mile from Seaways , down that back road?. That’s worth a visit for a brew & a bun, when it’s open. Some great riding on the lanes in the Wolds area, highly recommended. Coming back through Pocklington, it doesn’t matter too much if you miss the turn you wanted because the other exits will take you to the A1079 or A614, then you can get back on track.

Agree about that road surface around Wentworth. I often go down that way, to friends who live near Wentworth or part of my ride into Derbyshire! That ‘temporary’ road surface has gone well beyond temporary! I think it’s the ‘forgotten road’. Got my second motorcycle at age 69 this year. On my first (great '82 Suzuki GS65G) for 15 years I never worked on it. This new one (KTM Adventure 390) seems to draw me in, and I've done a number of mods already. I am so enjoying exploring it and learning how really simple and straightforward these bikes are compared to 4 wheel vehicles. And, yes, there is a Zen focus while peacefully working on it, bolting & measuring & adjusting & fitting & connecting, etc. This is just as you say, worthwhile in itself, with a single quieting focus unlike the scanning & decisions & technique that is a necessary part of the riding, as fun as that is. Thank you for your thoughts! Subscribed. And BTW, I only recently first read Pirsig's book. Right up there with Steinbeck's 'Travels with Charley'.

The following research was published in Japan in 2009: In March 2009, a report was published on the relationship between motorcycle riding and brain activation. Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and the Tohoku University Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer, Kawashima Ryuta Laboratory conducted a study on the relationship between motorcycle riding and brain activation. The results of this study proved that there is the following relationship between motorcycle riding and brain activation: 1) Riding a motorcycle activates the rider's brain (especially MT bikes) 2) There is a difference in how the brain is used and activated between active riders and riders who have been away from the sport (active riders process information logically and concentrate while driving) 3) By incorporating motorcycle riding into daily life, various brain cognitive functions are improved, and it also has a positive effect on mental health, reducing stress and improving the health of the brain and mind. The brain that is activated and trained by riding a motorcycle is the prefrontal cortex, and it seems that the cognitive functions "memory, thinking ability, and judgment" are particularly improved. In addition, as an added effect, it has been proven that it has the effect of "relieving stress, improving physical condition, and reducing mistakes." It is also said that people who ride motorcycles look strangely youthful compared to those who do not. It is thought that the reason why motorcycle riders tend to look relatively youthful is based on such scientific evidence. Continuing to ride motorcycles may also be useful for preventing future dementia and depression, as well as for anti-aging purposes. Finally, many people think that motorcycles are dangerous vehicles, but if you obey the road traffic laws and drive safely, there is no other vehicle that feels as good as this one and lets you feel the breeze. I would like to continue riding motorcycles to relieve stress and anti-aging, and to activate my brain...drive safely! MT: Manual transmission, AT: Automatic transmission

Hi A lot of what you said I agree with. When I first started in . was told by a biker if you want to be a biker. The best way is to build your bike, and that's what I did . I bought two old 250 MZ, and out of the two, I built one good one. I learnt how to ride how to spanner my way out of trouble, and yes, you're right. I did not have the money to give a mechanic to repair my motorcycle. I have recently been unwell, and my way of getting over all the stress was to buy a motorcycle and start a rebuild. It helps it helped me and I am glad I chose to have motorcycles in my life back in 1977. Why, I don't know, but I am so glad I did. Keep up with your channel. From one Yorkshire man to another 👍🏻 regards

Too ladies, came and sat down at next table. The older of the two started a conversation with “have you come far?” and then mentioned another cafe - Willingham Woods where she sees lots of bikes and asked if we ever visited there. We do! 4 strangers engaged for a brief moment - it’s what travel is all about, even on a motorcycle. Ride safe.

Hai. There is a lot to be said for reasons to ride a motorcycle. Just for fun, getting from a to b. Or clearing ones head of a bad mood or thoughts. I stopt riding for at least 15 years after i got on my motorcycle while being in a dark place. Back then i was almost always angry with myself, the world and everybody els. The day that would end my riding for years i was in really bad place. I wanted to knock someones head off for just looking at me. I got on my motorcycle and just opend up from the first corner. I knew and its still the case , i am a magnet for for getting into sticky traffic situations. 7 out of 10 not my fault. Yeh i do also fuck up at times. Anyway, riding that day did not help much to clear my head so i headed back home doing around 100km a hour. Set out to pas a line of cars . There was enough space for me to get back on the right lane untill the mf in the last car started to speed up closing the cap between cars. The rest behind him did the same thing. I knew he had seen me with my flashing indicators. I saw him looking at me. He just did not give a shit. I started to fall back but there was a f......g line of cars all of sudden and no space given for me. Uncoming traffic ahead came ever closer and i knew there was no where left to go but in the middle between cars doing 100 or more km a hour .The dark place and anger i was trying to get rid of going for a ride just went into overdrive. I got so f......g mad i rode up the mf that forced me into that situation and made sure he saw me and gave him the vinger. Useles i know. With nowhere to my only thought was there we go this might be the last ride.i opend up with cars both side of me . When it happens than with high speed and be over quik was the only thought i hade .i never gave it a thought wat could happen to the people in the car i could smash into.i was in a dark place and did not care anymore. I did not!!! and never have concidred suicide. I just belived at that moment my time was up. I closed my eyes and waited for what i thought would be the end. I felt a slight bump and my motorcycle shudderd a bit and i opend my eyes seeing the left mirror bend inwards. How just my mirror got hit and not my handlebar is still a mysterie to me. Even that at the time did not shook me up. I just thought you lucky basterd. A car to my right must have the shit show and gave me space to pull over. I was still so f mad i did not thank that person for more than likely saving my life. I got home, shuffed the motorcycle in the shed and never touched it again ending up selling it. I did not become scared of riding or anything. Something just changed and till this day i do not know what. I started riding again of and on five years ago. But its never bin the same sins. I cant get up and just ride a bit anymore. I still need to clear my head from time to time. But now i need a set destination to ride to ride to. Even if it is just a gas station 100km away. The fun in just get up and ride a bit hase dispeard that on that shit show day. I am in the proces of trying to ride more again but am well aware it will never be the same again. And i know i cant force the feeling back because that might pull me back into a darker past. So i just go with the flow trying not to be to much of a 60 year old grumpy bastard. There as many reasons to ride a motorcycle as you can think of how ever strange the reason might be.

Don't need bike meets, thanks. Ask yourself why, for example, a pizza delivery rider won't show up at them. I've seen 125 riders (under 20 years old) on modern 125s tarted up to look sporty sit around and grimace and smoke a cigarette trying to fit in. There's nothing going on at them apart from awful rock cover bands and terrible food. I think they're judgmental places, inherently. Some guy drives a forklift truck, buys a Harley, tarts it up, and goes to the bike meet. He fits in like a glove! But nobody else does.

@@rupertbollywood1190 the bike’meets’ I mention are casual cafes serving a full english and coffee. Not organised Biker rally type events. You do get youngsters and wanna bees attracted by some Hollywood image but they either eventually get it or move on. We all started somewhere and for different reasons. For me part of the attraction is the casual interaction with like minded souls. Some of my other videos show the type of places I’m talking about. @@barnsleybikervideodiary7694 This is true. Unfortunately, you have to separate yourself from bikers, to enjoy motorcycling. In most internet forums, you see the display of the most intolerant views imaginable, among bikers. Animal abuse, racism, Islamophobia (I'm not a Muslim but I hate to see people who are mostly OK get dehumanised). That's just daily life on Bikechatforums, for example. They will go to Calne bike meet and MAG meets, etc. At a local level though, in pockets in places like Yorkshire, local bike nights can be good and you meet people there, I'm sure. But on the whole, motorcyclists tend to be bad people rather than good. Separating oneself from them and just riding is the essence of motorcycling fun. It is a solitary hobby. I went to a few big bike events. At Calne the egos were out of control - nobody really interested in bikes but more interested in being seen. One guy walked past my bike and said "fudgepacker". He wasn't talking about me or my bike but I just thought, you know what, I've nothing in common with that yob despite being into bikes. I am tolerant and have no issues with anyone. At another, I had to assert myself to get served a hamburger - these guys in a club wanted to push in front of me but I wasn't having it. At a small local bike night I took out my phone to photograph some bikes and got evil stares from some old people who were hangers-on to a notorious MC. I put the phone away. These people have nothing in common with me. I do bike projects and I have books about engines and motorcycle engineering, and watch videos on the subject. Unfortunately, bikers as a whole are just the worst, and they're completely unaware of it.

@@rupertbollywood1190 I am the same in liking to ride alone. I find the idea of going riding with someone else really off-putting. But I am by nature very unsocial so it's probably more that than any specific dislike towards other bikers. I will say though, that if I ever see a place filled to the brim with motorcycles, it does make me want to steer well clear. I went on a camping/riding trip to the peak district a couple of weeks ago and passed a pub with a sea of motorcycles parked outside. My first impulse was to ride in the opposite direction! Maybe I am similarly prejudice towards other bikers as you sound to be, but I like to hope it is just a reflection of my usual anti-socialness... I do find though that the times I do speak to other bikers, the subject innevitably becomes a dick measuring contest of top speeds and crashes. I find such conversations to be pretty uninteresting to be honest. I also know nothing about bikes mechanically so any talk of horsepower and 0-60 times also goes over my head. Gosh I actually sound like the boring one haha!

@@ramsy66 There's so much to learn about bikes no matter what our current level of knowledge - they're a great invention and offer all levels of fun and involvement. However, they're also an enormous industry with a powerful marketing-based focus. In the 20th century, the world of racing and race tuning led the way in all things, so, for example, clubs and events involved people who were into racing and building bikes for racing. There were also show bikes, but now it seems it's only a world of show, and nothing else. For example, someone will always tow a Triton to a big event. People will look at it and recite what they know, which isn't much. It's a bit like the real world is trying to shape itself into a Wikipedia consensus. It's a bit odd, and jarring. Additionally, it's harder to communicate with people than before because formality has gone out of the window. Every conversation is chatty and informal, may include a bit of banter and swearing, etc. But because the individual's culture (e.g. region of the country, social class and background), anything they try to communicate will be harder to understand for other people because of a lack of formality. Using the written word, we can communicate and be understood so much more easily. This is regarded as a sort of disorder now (autism). In fact, any sort of questioning or difficulty in social interaction is pathologised. Sum result: you never know if you're being joked with or insulted, or if someone is trying to teach you or patronise you, etc. So of course it's rational and natural to avoid such situations unless there is something to actually gain from them. The people who are into meets have something they want to gain from them, and it usually involves vying for status among women.

A very weird take on motorcycling and your reasons and logic are way off deep down unconsciously . Trauma plays a unconscious part to motorcycling ,donning a helmet as you would in space and travelling through the universe just as you are repeating the need to escape reality ,reality has become to painful for most and we feel trapped by the laws of the elite who own you by a number, they are 10 steps ahead of you when it comes to why you ride ,being vulnerable as a schizoid narcissist with ocd .ie . Covert narcs ,escaping into your heads is the number one tool ,for coping with trauma issues .and the feeling that you know you feel nothing except speed and the wind ,exists ,but you know that there are times you wonder if you do .your have an eternity to do that at the speed of light one day .THE EMPTINESS IS THE VOID IN SCHIZOID ,THE WITHDRAWAL OF THE HURT CHILD ,TRYING TO BECOME ,WHEN IN FACT ,YOU ARE NOTHING AND EVERYTHING IS NOTHING ,ONLY THE ILLUSION OF SOMETHING EXISTS THRO YOUR DELUSION IT MANIFESTS .EVERYTHING IS THE UNIVERSE ,WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?
