I need the clip that goes on the back of the pipe jaw one has it the other one doesn’t so it won’t fall out. The end cap and both lock nuts . Not to worry about end cap or nut I can put any nut but do need the clip for the pipe jaw so it won’t fall.

How long does the boiled linseed oil stay on the metal? I've only used it on door bottoms where it soaks into wood. tHanks all.

It depends on the conditions. It can last years. But if there’s a lot of humidity than might need to reapply after a few months.

i have a SUPER raw beat up vise ....is this boiled linseed oil a long lasting coating? i kind of dont want to have to keep reapplying it...what do you think?
@axesandsuch8636
@axesandsuch8636 Жыл бұрын
For an indoor, non-humid location, a good BLO coating should last a couple years (heat the vise with a yellow flame before applying and dispose of the rags appropriately as BLO can self combust as it dries on rags). If it’s outdoor or very humid, BLO might last 6 months. Nothing will really protect it forever outdoors. If you have some money to spend and want to give it the best shot, there are products from a company called Sculpt Nouveau that I like. I recommend their metal oil (several thin coats, drying 48 hours in between coats), followed by their Clear Guard (or heavy duty Ever Clear) top coat. If you want to go all the way, you can then go over the clear guard top coat with Metal wax once it dries. I have vises that I’ve done that to that are indoors in humid climates and they are still good after several years. Outdoors, your mileage may vary. Good luck!

This was fun to watch! the 8" vises locally are apparently from the railroad shops. The heaviest looking one I have seen is a Hollands 8" with a fixed base. The fellow that has that also has a Parker 8" both on stands used to break down hydraulic cylinders and things large wood processing operation. I managed to find a 6 1/2" Parker swivel jaw that is my regular working vise. My only other great find is a 1970s Wilton 450SJ from Boeing surplus.
