Went to Nicaragua with a crew in 2015. We like a bit of bodyboarding on our drinking holidays. Went to The Boom; never been more scared in my life but caught some cracking waves! Great vid.

I just checked my old diary to find date I surfed the island the first time. It was may 1988. Crikey

I’m 48 bodyboarder from the 90’s when Guilherme and Mike were no.1. Can’t believe his still shredding. I got no excuse myself now. I used to ride a manta in the smaller stuff and a rheopaipo terminator (Dave appleby) for the bigger stuff. Even used to ride the cyclone swells on the lid! Wazza, wingnut and Macca. The shark island crew at the time. I moved to Kirra Gold Coast and body boarded the warm waters everyday- all day……. I promise to one day take up that surfer lifestyle again. As it was so relaxing, I swear ever since I moved back to Sydney city living the stress has been ever present and noticeable depression is heavy on everyone who lives here. The beach/surfer’s paradise lifestyle was chill…wake up,smoke weed/drink coffee, eat croissants walk 100mts to beach and go for 4 hour surf. Come home only to eat ,smoke ,drink, chat, shag and head back for afternoon surf and later night time surf (they have it light up at night with floodlights in the flag area for night surfing) Mixed in with some night time drinking and women. We (6 of us (5m 1f) shared the rent on a 2story Queenslander house with printshop in garage so we had income of screen printing tshirts) had a blast living together playing music and surfing/smoking/drinking. WOW! Thats my happy place. City stress has been ever present since I moved back to Sydney in 1999. Things have only progressively gotten worse in the city, taxes and rent, cost of living. But i promise to one day jump back on a lid for a tube or 2 because Mike steward has inspired me!

Looks like a fast version shark island. Intense rides to be had!

Im from the 1990’s to 1998’s era of boarding. Makes me wonder where all the old guys are now. Used to ride (Manta and BZ or rheopaipo) used to be a guy who charged the wedge but would never take sponsorship or go into competition even though he’d win. I think it was Chad Barba. Full close outs. He would say it’s his local home beach break when it was heavy.
