You can manually adjust the pressure on the handle trigger. gently reducing the pressure will safely lower the head onto the roof. For most houses you will be able to work from a single spot per each side of the roof. The X & Y actuators make it easy to continuously work from one spot

All depends on how hard your water is and how many litres of water you put through it. Also, how often you need to replace your other two filters and your blue bottle resin. The more this filter membrane is clogged - the slower water flows through it. Anyway, my membrane is two years old now and I'm about to replace it as I see how water struggles to get through, it's just much slower to refill the tank and my inlet water hose expands dramatically when using my 4040 whilst filtering. But then I have a fair round, so it figires.
