Why do you empty the bottom lock and leave the gates open? Surely a boat could just as easily be coming the other way first no??

As they mentioned “you should leave the lock empty unless there is another boat waiting to come down” due to its placement boats are more likely to travel up. There are lots of leisure boats on this stretch and leaving the bottom open makes it easier and slightly quicker for boats coming up.

Very good video. I’ve not long been living in U.K coming from Australia and a life on a canal boat looks perfect for me. In Australia we have to do what they call a “recreational skippers ticket.” If we want to use a boat in the ocean or in rivers. Is there a course you can do in UK for narrow boats and safe operation of locks?

fabulous boats and service...our only moan was the canal is/was very very shallow...we spent so long grounded we didnt complete our trip...well worth a visit..bring your own water....lol.

Hear me out, I wouldn't necessarily call it luxurious. It is very beautiful, homey and comfortable. It puts your mind into a good peaceful mood and that is better than what people define as ultra-high end modern luxury to me.

Going to want to add a lubricator to the air line going into the engine. Steam has some (poor) lubrication properties, compressed air has none.

My wife and I just returned home from a trip to the UK where we spent a lovely week on Kite. It's a beautiful boat that was easy to operate (and this video is very true to the condition of the boat). We were treated wonderfully by the BPB staff. I've got to say that I was absolutely amazed that the entire length of the canal (We went west through the lock flight to Brecon and back) was as beautiful as all of the pictures in the brochures.
