Can I use the landscape wire 16/2 to hook the light? What is the benefit of using those wire in the video and how does that connect to a transformer?
@Tia-MarieAllenКүн бұрын
My wires are white black & gold with like construction lookin paper around it.. help please!!! Of course I know the gold is for the green (ground) but my ceiling fan has again green for ground then white (neutral) blue (light) pink, gray & red for (receiver)
@Tia-MarieAllenКүн бұрын
I should add that mine has this remote control operation.. I wish I could send pictures 😂 so I gotta wire up this remote to the fan before I wire it to the hardwired in the ceiling so ofcourse all these wires will match up I’m just worried do I do anything else with them.. I know again green to green or bare then white to white but my ceiling fan doesn’t have black so I’m assuming blue to black but what about the rest of them does this remote thing take care of it???
@Tia-MarieAllenКүн бұрын
Ya know what I’m a total failure right now 😂 I seen all the wires & panicked!! All color wires coincide with each other then on the opposite side of the remote control thing the white black & green were on the other side I panicked for nothing 😂

Do you have to use the quad breaker or could you donthis with just a regular double pole? And if so, do you just leave the top and bottom terminals unused?

I hate to rain on your parade, but I had a cord reel burn up. It had a breaker in it, but drawing a bunch of current thru it caused it to overheat. Seems that current running thru the wire, coiled up, creates an electrical field that creates heat.
@theinternetelectrician5 күн бұрын
Yes, that's been known to happen. With a large current flow it could cause some heating in the coil. More risk in a much longer cord reel than this, but with low current / wattage loads like this it's not too likely. But something to keep in mind for sure. Thanks for watching!

@theinternetelectrician6 күн бұрын
I would need much more information from you to troubleshoot the problem. Photos, diagrams, any supporting information you could provide as the story behind what went wrong. New installation? Existing that quit working? Devices changed out and no longer works? Light fixtures replaced, etc. It's a bit like detective work to solve a crime 🙂

Great video. My question is, how would you add a light to the circuit you have shown? It appears my house is wired the same as you displayed. I would like to add a light at the bottom of the steps (there is currently only one at the top) Would i need to fish a new romex from the top light to the bottom?

This helped me identify the error in my switch wiring. On the secondary 3-way switch which is not directly powered by the circuit, I had the black wire from the traveler hooked into the common screw and the black wire from the circuit hooked in the traveler screw. I reversed those, and problem solved.

Quick question, I have a 170 ft run from barn where I will have a meter base to 30 amp rv pedestal with an additional 20 amp gfci outlet. What size wire do I run the 170 ft to pedestal? and do I run 2 wires? 1 for 30 amp plug and 1 for 20 amp gfci? Thanks in advance
@Jay-zq9hs10 күн бұрын
Hi Terry I'm not sure if this is posable but I want to independently turn on and off lights within a 3way circuit. I have an outdoor area with two separate low voltage lights I want to turn it on and off at the house and on and off at the outdoor area but I also want to turn on and off each set of lights separately

Why does ground connect to the box and the back of the plug? Why not just go straight to the plug?
@aceangel589113 күн бұрын
So basically power the receiver, connect the wires from the fan to the receiver by color, tuck away, finish the rest of the job.

THANK YOU!!! I Spent about an hour trying to remove an old box that held the thermostat for old removed electrical base board heaters. I fought with those side brackets thinking they slid up or down to lock the box in place. This video showed me I had to unwrap those 4 tabs!!! This box was attached to Very thin, old 3' x 7' thin wood panels that we plan to replace and paint after installing insulation behind them.

Can't tell you how happy you made me and my granddaughter by providing this video. We struggled trying to figure out how to connect the wires when switching out a ceiling light (my bad I forgot to take a picture before disconnecting the old fixture) as the light would turn on but not shut off with the switch. Now the light works perfectly. THANKS SO MUCH!

Do all fans have the hole for the plug in the same spot? Or did I just buy the wrong fan? I wanted to just replace the inside without taking the old case out of the wall…. The plug doesn’t match up though….
@buggsy519 күн бұрын
Just mark the distance with a piece of tape on the floor, then use a plumb bob to transfer that distance to the ceiling. That receptacle box cutout is not going to be a critical position. Even if it were, you are not going to get it with a tape measure alone. Even just measuring along the floor and standing a narrow beam flashlight on its back end on the floor would probably provide sufficient accuracy. Unless you have a lot of such measurements needing to be made, a laser is overkill.
@theinternetelectrician19 күн бұрын
All good tips Buggsy. But alternatively, you could have a lazer meter sent to you to test and review, and then sit down and write a script to feature the device in a practical and uselful way! 🙂

@@theinternetelectrician You could, but I certainly do not have that option.

Why can't you use 2 GFCI receptacles in the kitchen and still use the Load side to feed regular receptacles in the normal fashion downstream? Clearly, you can't split a GFCI, but if you use 2, one powered by the black wire, and the other powered by the red. Create a joint for the neutral wire to connect to each one.

How long will pvc conduit last when exposed to sun ? And will liquid tight last longer than pvc?
@theinternetelectrician26 күн бұрын
If PCV is exposed to the sun, give it a coat of plasticoat spray paint in the color of choice. (helps to blend it in to the background as well). And yes, LT will last longer that PVC as it's more formulated for UV protection (says my non-chemist opinion) 🙂
