Great question and thanks for checking out the video. It does close from the inside, yet you cannot utilize the locks from the inside. I do sleep in it occasionally and just pull it closed. I do believe that a company does offer a lock kit that does work from tye inside. I have not found it really necessary. Cheers!

Now where hooked and making plans to complete all of section 2. I must say the leaves are just about gone for the most part and ponds and creeks are very low.

Hey @vinboughton4751 thanks for checking out my channel. Some people seem to believe that sections of these BDR’s are crossing private land, but they are all public access areas. Technically they are roads. Many bordering owners try and put up signs that say Keep Out, etc… but they are simply trying to be a deterrent. I also highly recommend you trying a free trial of an app like ONX or Gaia. This allows you to see the property records with owner names as you travel across the map. Thanks again and have a great fall.

I live in the very most north eastern corner of NJ. 5 miles from the TZB. I’m a normal middle age family guy that is a carpenter by trade and have enjoyed off-roading, at and dirt bikes. I recently got a Jeep Wrangler for a couple reasons but one of the main reasons is my buddies and I don’t really have the time anymore to get together and do trips like this. If you are ever going off-roading or can recommend a place to go in the Catskills please let me know. I’m clueless of where to go. We use to rent homes in east Jewitt / Hunter and we would ride there but it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to roll in those spot. Please keep me in mind if you have any recommendations or are looking for company. This probably sounds like the most bizarre message but I’m just being real. Thanks for the video. I started a new job early this spring and went from doing many trips to nothing. Unfortunately my schedule is off Sundays and usually Wednesdays and Thursdays. This has kept me from planning weekend overnight trips with friends. I have also now got the WANT A BIKE bug after doing sections 1-3 on the NEBDR. I have been looking to hit these trails again and would definitely be up for connecting if you have any week day time available or if maybe a Sunday day-trip to get the wheels dirty?

I sure hope more 4x4s don’t attempt these. These specific routes are meant for motorcycling trips and experiences with motorcycling and motorcyclists in mind. I’ve found that 4x4s and UTVs/side-by-sides tend to really tear up these fragile unmaintained routes. Many of these unmaintained routes are really tough as it is for bikes-both from a technical perspective but also from a rider-property owner relationship.
@StormKingExpedition
@StormKingExpedition 5 ай бұрын
Appreciate your comments. I recognize that of the total 1300 miles (All of which are public roads) for this route about 10 of them are not passable by a 4x4. These routes were 4x4 routes long before they were declared a BDR. The areas that are not passable by 4x4’s are clearly marked and should not be attempted. I also plan to ride them on my motorcycle as well this summer.
@dirkstuff5820
@dirkstuff5820 5 ай бұрын
Have fun on the motorcycle. Out of respect for the BDR, the property owners who the BDR crew have emphasized that we motorcyclists must respect while we pass through, and the motorcyclists who travel this route, I would just be hesitant to advertise the BDR to the 4x4 audience. You know the power of social media - take beautiful pics or talk lovingly of a remote place, and now that place lights up with tourists and travelers, often times leading to ruin or over-saturation of traffic. These are public roads, as you mentioned, but they’re historic, fragile, and many of them largely forgotten to the average car driver. Plus, their legal status as unmaintained leaves them in a gray area where the property owners whose lands abut the routes would wish for them to be private (partly due to privacy wishes but largely due to 4x4s ripping through the path and tearing them up further, requiring the property owner to empty their own wallet to continue using the road). So, yes-anyone can legally use them…for now, until enough traffic and destruction leads to louder voices calling for legislation changes adds to restrictions and takes away more joy. Many people like to explore and play on the weekends-unfortunately not all of us like to give back or help maintain these fragile systems or undue to inconveniences provided onto the folks who might regularly use them. The BDR routes are meant for motorcyclists-maybe consider not advertising the name to 4x4 enthusiasts. There’s so much history in these roads, but they’re also a few bad decisions from being discontinued, leading to nobody being allowed on them. Sorry, I know this is a biased rant.

@@dirkstuff5820 Hey Dirk, Passion and respectful voice like yours is what makes things happen. People saying nothing is how things that we want most are taken away from us. I would ask that you not think of this as assumed groups like the "4x4 audience" of viewers as I would not think of the Adventure Motorcyclist as "Dirt Bike Riders". If you count the # of BMW GS or Guzzi Riders (LOL!) on these BDR's you would be quick to assume that they are a bunch of High Income nature loving adventurers. We know that's not always the case, but there is only so much we can do about it. The Moment that Ride BDR created marketing videos for BDR's that are all over KZbin, the Adventure Motorcycling community declared it open for Motorcycle adventure. Some people expected everyone else to stay away. I know that was not the real intention, but that has become the attitude. Lets all just leave it better then we found it and call people out when they are not doing the right thing. This has been my messaging through all of my videos. One of a few reasons why I do KZbin is to get people out to explore , specifically in the Northeast US. We have many people who need some good stimulation and I believe this kind of stuff cures all. Cheers!

Hi @GandCsports. Thanks for watching. Let’s start by simply saying that your Jeep Gladiator Sport is extremely capable. This trail should not be a problem. Although I do want to caution my only concern, MUD!. Tires could be an issue, especially with the amount of rain we have had more recently. I would recommend always bring some rescue gear and a set of mud trax are always a good investment. Please don’t let this be a barrier to a little fun. Be safe and choose good lines when you see the Mud. Cheers!

With regards to the weight. If you had it to do over. Would you go with a lighter model such as the 270LT or even the 180?? Thx

@mikebeatty1111 Hey Mike, Thanks for checking out my review. You ask a great question and there is a lot to consider. With my current HD truck, I would not change anything. Now on the other hand If I was to mount this on my Gladiator or a Mid-Size vehicle such as a Wrangler, Tacoma, 4Runners’s, etc… I would make weight savings my first priority. I think it is important to first consider where do you cook or prep food on your trips? Obviously, a 180 (Side Mounted) will commit you to one side. Many people like and build a rear kitchen set up. I just take a table to the side and that works for me when the weather calls for it. For me a 180 would be my Mid-size vehicle preference. Cheers and thanks for subscribing.

Nice video ,does the smart cap leak anywhere?

I have had no issue with leaks. I will say that I always open the door on the cap before the tailgate and close the tailgate first to protect against wear on the rear seal.

Hi John, great series. Thanks for documenting your overland travels in the northeast. As a fellow jeep overlander based in lower NY state, I know the struggle of finding dispersed camping around here. Subbed and will check out your other videos! Jim

Another great video, John! As frustrating as those gates were, clearing the tree was good of you. Will you explore more in the closed-off area after the season "begins"? Thanks for bringing us along. I look forward to further adventures!

Thanks Ken. Appreciate you watching. I fully expect to head back in May as many people have recommended with the state trail gates closed until May 1. I hope to share some other trips, that I unfortunately don’t have planned yet. More to explore. 😎

I did part of this trail with my Gladiator in February. I am going to hit the full route soon. Did you find any good car camping sites?

It was not easy finding camping in the winter. I found a few spots on State land in NY that worked out Well. The spring should be considerably better with public campgrounds. It’s a roll of the dice most nights in the winter. Had to head home a few times as well. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

I usually camp in the bed of my Gladiator. I have a bed tent. I just look for flat areas that are off of the trail. @@StormKingExpedition

This will not be a problem at all when you get on State land and find a side trail. You are really going to enjoy the route and utilize an App like ONX or Gaia if you don’t have it already. The ONX App has allowed me to wonder down trails that was not properly marked and identify spaces that I was not sure were public. The mapping shows you all of the land owners as well. Thanks again for following along.

Wow great discovery! I have been looking for overlanding routes and this one starts right outside of where I live “Binghamton NY”. Thanks for posting this. If interested I would highly recommend Bald Eagle State Forest for great overlanding and Jeep camping.

@everythingoutdoorsandjeeps Thanks for watching and subscribing. These trails are a lot of fun and honestly not that difficult. Truly makes for a great adventure as the Spring Leaves and green grass start to bloom. Appreciate you also sharing the Bald Eagle State Forest recommendation. I see this is also not to far from one of my PA favorites at Boulder Field State Park. TY, I am always looking for a new discovery. Enjoy the ride. JK
