If you're looking to DIY your spacing, a good starting point is between 120% and 145% of the point size of your chosen font. Formula: pointSize x 1.45 = Line Spacing Example: 12 x 1.45 = 15

Hi, love your content, you are amazing, thank you so much for it, i use every one of them, i also like using “commas” 😅 Question. Is it mandatory to creat the site inside your liftkit compared to just copying elements from it? I have found that some text wrappers dont work if i copy. Thank you!
@chainlift.official7 күн бұрын
You should be able to copy paste as long as you also duplicate the global styles component at the very top of every page. There is custom css powering certain things and I haven't set up a CDN link yet.

yes and no. the example on 07:13 looks "nicer" on the right but there is a very strong case, especially and specifically in relation to tabular information, the one of the left is preferred and better, especially if there are more rows. a blend between left and right would be perfect

Am I getting toppled here or maybe it's a meme as I find the left side on 1:00 much more satisfying to look at, and then the video goes into trying to justify how the crampedness makes it better. 😔 I am definitely not a designer so my concept of spacing is totally warped but it's horrifying how far gone I am

the problem is that some developers genuinly don't believe in the objectivity of UX. they will come at you and say something like "oh, you don't like this workflow but someone else might" and i'm like "no, stfu, this is just shit. the people who enjoy that might have an incredible attention span and a lot of patience, or maybe they are just masochists, or they lack a sense for how draining this is, but that doesn't justify the complete lack of a good workflow"

The "better" example at 0:58 is unbalanced. This is not a method a UI designer would recommend. Viewing these cards from a micro perspective is the mistake. Viewing the document as a whole would reveal there's not enough padding within the card. And more spacing on the y-axis than on the x-axis is almost always preferable. Other than that, excellent video.

Hey Chainlift, I know you mentioned spacing is relative and not fixed however as a UI designer who simply works on figma, how would I communicate these values to a developer (who isnt using webflow). Is there a way you can still provide spacing values in pixels (on your figma kit) to which it can be translated to ems? Perhaps using 16px as the base reference? Thanks!
@chainlift.official14 күн бұрын
Yeah they're all stored as local variables in the Figma kit as pixels!

"If something can mean anything, then it really doesn't mean anything at all." Everyone knows redefining a word to mean anything destroys that word, but it's funny that people can admit common sense observations in a context like interface design that they will deny in other contexts, like gender.

As someone who dreams to design a graphical programming language similar to DRAKON and a full IDE for it with editor and compiler, I'm more interested in general design principles that you talk about in this video and less interested in specific instruments that you can use only for building a website. So I wish you will talk more about general principles in your future videos and I will enjoy it. But the choice is yours.

Hi ! Just a simple question about your kit. I put on primary color generator #FCC4C5 and secondary #224F55, for example then it generate all the colors. Put when i go in webflow variables, the light__primary_clv and light__secondary_clv are not the same as the color i indicate in the generator (HEX are different) I dont find my HEX in any variable. Color are close, i agree, and it's should be for better contrast and ratio, but not the same. So for example, if the color of my client are #FCC4C5 and #224F55 for the light version, what am i suppose to write in the generator to have theses colors in the light_primary/ light_secondary ? Thanks for the value of your content !

How do you approach this method in Figma? As far as I know, em units aren't currently supported in Figma. Considering all margins are based off the size of its parent container there doesn't seem to be a simple and effective way using variables to implement this.
@twozdo25 күн бұрын
in figma you mostly work with standard sizes like mobile/desktop and you are not really designing for multiple screens (ik we do need to make it responsive but for presentation we only showcase one final screen) so I did followed this method for a while but recently I just started using the 4px method where every spacing/size is multiple of 4 and I just do some math to make it follow this method. Also you can always clarify these rules when handing over to the developers.
@rhbrolotek24 күн бұрын
You can achieve consistent spacing in figma if you turn on the auto layout feature with zero spacing between the elements and use "spacer" components between your actual content. This way, when you modify a spacer's size, they will all change and there you go 😊
@MD-kb8zt23 күн бұрын
@@rhbrolotek yes but that means I still need to make spacing components for every type size in my design system and account for different combinations of elements. The great thing about em is that it can reference the parent elements font size.

Boo! Started out very strong, but at 1:00 , the slightly more space on top feels better. Artistically aesthetically and in real life physics, like building a structure... here is the key word - structure. Be careful assuming things matter-of-fact.
