Movies like Breakdown and Raising Arizona. They all have Hillbilly accents. Hell I'm from NC and we don't even talk that country.

I'm in NJ, just doing some research. I'm sure I have a different accent but the only words I'd pronounce differently are schedule and sure, I'd say something that sounds more like skedge-wool, and for sure I'd say something that sounds more like shore.

Im born and raised Phoenician with a “generall” Amero accent and purposefully say words “incorrectly” just to spice it up. Like “terlet” “warsh” “aboot” for example. I was in AeroForce and met all types from all over, it was riotous the way other peeps spoke

Haha, I know this video is super old but the bug that rolls up into a ball is a rolly polely (roll with the -y sound and pole with the -y sound) for me. I grew up in northern AZ though so it might be different for people from Phoenix

I lived in Mesa and Casa Grande. When I joined the army I met lots of people with different types of accents but I've never been told I have one. I have a monotone to my speech but I think that's just lack of emphasis or emphasis on certain vowels other accents do. A lot of people (from my experience) expected someone from Arizona to sound like someone from California. Side note if you join the Army as infantry and you're from Arizona. Good chances you'll end up being an RTO (radio telephone operator) due to your voice clarity. 3:27 who used to "mummify the cactus"?

It's also pretty common for Arizonans to have an accent that's mostly general American but with more of a Texas type southern inflection on certain words. Not a complete southern drawl but not exactly a Cali surfer accent either. That's how I would describe my accent and I live in Tucson.

Literally saw the vids today, 3 or 4 of em'.. ... Started skipping to find they go on Cali.. Utah.. Nothing Arizonan! We really mostly don't have accents.. Weird to claim.. But whites here.. Don't have twang zang, just bland ok amurican. Of course we have LOTS.. A plethora of transplanys.. Mexicans in general.. A lot of blacks after hurricane Katrina came here.. So we have natives, a few Chicano and piasa English.. Some western Few southern Mostly .."normal"

I was born in Chicago (for 6 years) but basically grew up in Phoenix for the past 14 years. I got most of your features, but the combination of my initial midwest birth, adaptions from other accents via increasingly globalized culture (such as my generation's favorite music being made by AAVE speakers), and my Russian-speaking family made me say things differently. Like I say y'all, say pajamas like pa-JAH-mas (same sound as palm), say salmon like SAL-m'n not Sah-men, and find it hard not to pronounce a few words like mayonnaise, pomegranate, and bandana the Russian way. My pronunciation when I'm speaking full American English definitely has the usual Arizonan trademarks of slurring words together, suppressing and cutting off T-sounds, and going for as few syllables as possible, just to keep a smooth flow even in casual conversation. If I encounter a non-English word I'm not familiar with I would either try to pronounce it Spanish-ly b/c of all the Hispanic culture I was surrounded by down here, or Russian-ly due to my parents' accents. I drop that flow completely when talking to someone who is ESL like my parents, expanding contractions and sounding out stuff to ensure that my point gets across.
