Thanks for making the video. You gave me a good idea to start using my San Juan worm when there is no hatch. Question, with the water moving so slow (and it did not look deep) do you really think you needed the weight? I'm not challenging what you did, I'm inquiring as a novice fly angler. Thanks
@joef.76095 жыл бұрын
With longer drifts like these the weight is helping take up the slack from the indicator to the worm, this helps with strike identification giving you more opportunity's to land fish. because of the slow current, a non weighted worm would fall slower presenting a more natural fall BUT because of the slow water, your worm would float over the fish before it got to your strike zone. hope that makes sense. Thank you for watching and Tight lines!
@patrickmccambridge5 жыл бұрын
@@joef.7609 SO if I understood your set-up, the worm is your dropper, then the weight, small nymph and indicator at the top?

When you purchase a kuiu pack does the pack come with the suspension and frame or does it need to be purchased separately?
@joef.76095 жыл бұрын
You have the opportunity to buy the bag separately, unless it has built in suspension. The new PRO line of packs you can use the wizard on the website to build your pack and suspension. The 3600 is 489 full kit, meaning with bag and suspension. Try it out and let me know.

@@joef.7609 You just earned yourself a new subscriber, that response was quick as hell and good info. I'm gonna check out the wizard right now. Is Kuiu your preferred pack brand? I've also been looking at the Alps Commander x and like it especially for the price. I have money to spend on a good pack that'll last but if I can keep the price down I can by more gear lol

@@jurisprudence6549 All 3 manufacturers have a very good durability what I look for in a pack is weight savings and that's the reason why I stay with KUIU. Most people will wanna pack that is going to be durable in last a long time what I tell people is look for utility purposes. What is the goal of the pack and how consistently are you going to use it there's no reason and buying a 7800 in³ pack if you're only going to use 3600 in³ of it. Be smart with your expectations, and understand What most people don't think about is when the pack is wet when it rains, Some of these manufacturers say O were using 500 Codora material... Have you felt that 500 denier material when it's been wet it weighs like 3 times as much so a pack that weighs 7 pounds is going to end up weighing almost 30 pounds soaked and that's with nothing in it because of that " high end 500 denier material." I am a consumer myself and I know that there are days in the mountain when I get caught out in the rain my gears can get wet that means it's going to get heavy I'd rather start out with something light.

Great video if you were to pick just one bag size what would it be for a mainly elk hunt from a camp maybe a over night hunt from time to time. Thinking the 3200 for a just Incase size. I notice they have pack bags on sale so could always buy different if needed..thanks
@joef.76095 жыл бұрын
The 3200 is a perfect all around pack, with room for solid weekend trips as well. use the clinch down straps to keep the excess bag material from moving around. Once you have the full kit, you can swap to a larger bag for anything beyond 3 days. I used the 3200 this last season, it works great! Good luck, and Thank you for watching.

@@joef.7609 how tough is the bag? System I've read mixed reviews on the durability of there bags.. like the idea of being able to swap out bags if needed. I hunt brushy areas at times.. thanks again for the help
@joef.76095 жыл бұрын
@@jnordwell Well to be honest I have not had a bag fail in the field on me in the 5 years I have been using them. I use the 1850 Daily for my photography gear, I modified it to have padded pockets for lens, and a camera body. As with any cloth material, the thicker it is, the heavier it will be. Kuiu packs are ultra light, and that weight savings is in the materials they use. We are talking about durability, like I said, I have 3 bears, 5 elks, and various other animals that I have hauled off the mountain with, using the 5200, 3200, and the 1850 doesn't get dirty because it's my camera bag. You're going about it the right way getting educated before buying. Thanks again! good luck this next season

This is probably a stupid question but do if you were to buy just the pack does it come with straps or are the frame and suspension system required?
@joef.76096 жыл бұрын
Stephen Scribellito Hi. The bag only comes with extra hardware for internal lacing. It requires the frame and suspension to make it it all work as a complete unit. They sell the bags separate so you can swap them out for your needs. Like mine I carry a 1850 inside my 5500 when I'm out for expanded periods of time and remove the 5500 from the frame in camp to put on the 1850 for day hiking from camp. Hope that helps you. Hi Joe, I'm thinking of getting a Kuiu frame, but I want to fit a bag from another manufacturer. I'm wondering if the load-lifter stays will fit inside the pocket at the top of the bag and I would be grateful if you could measure across the top of your frame from the outer edge of one load-lifter stay to the other. Thanks in advance.

Hi Joe, excellent video. I didn't know what the bridge straps were called until I watched your video. What are the bridge straps for and how do they work? Thanks in advance.
@joef.76097 жыл бұрын
We use them to separate the BAG from the Frame to slide Meat quarters OR another gear bag between the Main BAG and Frame - then you can tension the bridge straps to make it firm against the frame and tighten up the load haul shoulder straps to your comfort level. On the ICON PRO 3200 can you carry a bow or gun on the pack?
@joef.76098 жыл бұрын
You can carry both - The icon suspension is capable of using BOTH - if you go to Kuiu.com and click Gear > Pack Systems > then you can get the Bow holder and Gun holder - you can use both. of course it's ideal to counter weight the gun holder - the Bow holder is centered over the main pack so it won't be an issue if you're going in light. Thank you for watching - Good luck this year.

Meat goes inside the pack?
@joef.76098 жыл бұрын
No, I pack the meat between the frame and bag, or you can attach it outside of the bag with the clips to hold it to the pack. either or, using KUIU Quarter Game Bag will keep your Icon pro pack separated from the meat.

Joe, what temp range would you say the guide pants are good for? Like 50degrees moderately active with vents open, 30 degrees moderately active with vents closed?
@joef.76098 жыл бұрын
50 degrees with the vents closed actually would be just fine if you're not wearing base layer, moderate activity. and then just vent accordingly. If you're going to do base layer 150 Merino wool you could do 30 degrees easily moderate activity. granted at that temperature of 30 degrees if you're going to sit Kama make sure that you get something between your butt and the ground because you will get cold sitting on it.

Thanks so much for this video. I had an issue where the carbon stays at the top would always fall out of the pockets when lifting/moving the pack around and couldn't figure it out. Discovered from the video that the tension straps (near the bottom) were connected to the incorrect nylon webbing loops. Came like this from KUIU so assumed that it was in the correct position.
