This is so cool. I've been enjoying Frank's videos this year, and have been super intrigued by this gentleman. Great interview! Thank you, Dr. Novak and Frank so much for the education on so much in under an hour. I just amassed around 20 new exciting topics to research, e.g. Paul Flato, Queen Nazli, and .... Jennifer Tilly! :) (Go JTilly for evolving herself to the point for being mentioned here!)

Do the Landrigans own the archives of Suzanne Belperron? Isn't Olivier Baroin the owner of the archives? What I know is that Landrigan owns the name Suzanne Belperron.

Jewellery is only worth what you're willing to pay like anything else, when you buy it it's all singing and dancing, when you're selling it its crap and not worth anything, and if do want to sell there always something wrong with it. If walked into a jewellers with a flawless diamond ring they would still find a fault, cos they want you to give it to them for nothing. So I don't listen to so called experts I will buy what appeals to me.
@glamdolly302 жыл бұрын
TRUTH! As someone who has bought and cherished valuable fine jewellery - and sadly had to sell it when hard times hit - I've been on both sides of the equation. Selling your beautiful, unique items of jewellery is soul destroying. I would not have sold it unless I was desperate - and of course the jeweller buying it could smell my desperation! Yes, they insult the pieces you're selling, to give you the lowest possible price. The following day, you'll walk past their chi-chi fine vintage jewellery store and see the items they disparaged and picked holes in gracing a bust at the front of their shop window marked at five or six times what they gave you for it! Since that experience, by view is to own less items, and enjoy them. Having jewellery sitting in a box somewhere is pointless. Wear your best pieces everywhere, and get maximum value for money from them. You're a long time dead!

It´s interesting from an outsider how important engagement and the engagement-ring is for americans. I saw a lot of engegament-fotoshoots too now. For me as a german it´s not the most important thing. And with no offense - I hope we won´t copy that in future. And I always get a little stomach stitch when I see ballerinas with rings and so on. No matter what sport I was doing - first rule was ALWAYS: take your jewerly off!
@beekmannewyorkfinejewelry28324 жыл бұрын
No offense taken! It is really interesting to note the cultural differences with jewelry. We are huge supporters of wearing whatever you love the most whenever you want to wear it (except during sports!). Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

@@beekmannewyorkfinejewelry2832 true - I have a growing admiration for each of them, in particular, as human beings:) When this video first began, I honestly thought - how is "high jewelry" even relevant in this moment where so many people worldwide are living without their basic needs being met? There is just so much inequality... I kept watching and was impressed with how much you know and love what you do - your art form. I would have liked to have heard more about how you (if you do) partner with ethical suppliers, since most mining for precious gems is unethical. You mentioned some of the recycling of jewels and pieces - can you tell us more? Thank you!
@beekmannewyorkfinejewelry28324 жыл бұрын
@@soldaliberdade13 First, thank you for such wonderful feedback - it means a lot, and YES, thrilled to share more regarding sustainability. In Episode 7, Laurie and Simon Watt talk through the concept of "fair trade" and their personal experiences in sourcing gems in Burma, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia. In Episode 9, designer Anna Sheffield talks about how she works to source sustainably, and in tomorrow's episode 10 designer Stephen Webster, who pioneered work with fair trade gold, talks about how he became involved. It is an ever evolving process, which is why we are committed to recirculating existing works, which allows for beautiful jewels to be enjoyed without additional damage to the earth. Please let us know what you think of these other discussions!
