There is an error in my video - Cousins Garage wasn`t at top of Westborough as shown (Goods radio shop) - It was further along corner of Hanover Road and Westborough ( about opposite the train station.

Hi Steve, we were there on 21st August and were told of an incident the day before. Everyone’s aware of the tides as it’s posted in the two car parks so most people give it about half an hour before to start back, however the big car park tends to get busy and if you’re in the wrong lane you have to wait till everyone else has exited before you can go. So the last people out are already under pressure to get off the island . This isn’t normally a problem as everyone’s going the same way. However the day before us, there was an accident at the railway crossing on the shore side about half a mile up the road. A tractor had skewered itself and hay bails on the crossing bar and had become stuck fast.the police were called but we’re on the wrong side of the crossing as the cars coming off the island couldn’t get past and we’re starting to queue Up. It didn’t take long till the queue , which was not moving, was as far back as the refugee in the middle. Apparently the police had phone to get someone on the island to stop more cars jointing the queue, and hotfoot it past the queue to direct all the cars queued up into the car park of a restaurant to let the cars on the crossing get off it. . But the time they did that the queue was on the other side and the water was starting to lap across the road at the lowest point. Thus was the interesting sight of policemen encouraging cars to divert off the road and go into a car park they didn’t want to get stuck in. One policeman was parking them so close they were nose to tail and not able to get out as the next car was 30cms away. Then they had to encourage the drivers behind to ignore the speed limit to get them up and off the road so the ones who could not reverse off the causeway had to make a dash for it. They only just made it getting all the traffic off the road as the wash was getting bigger by the minute. So leave in plenty of time would be my advise.

Hi, just a quick reply to some idiot comments --- my Late Father designed and built the causeway many years ago to allow vehicles and alike to cross the sands by a roadway to further developed tourism to the Island ---- knowing full well it was tidal! ---- The causeway was never designed to be used at high tide ! --- hence the crossing times -- if you ignore the crossing times or try to cross when the tide is on the turn and therefore coming in ---- its your fault --- nobody else's fault ---- Go and Enjoy this beautiful Island in safety by playing by the rules.

You can't cue thick and anyone driving through after ignoring the tide times deserves everything they get. And a very big fine to pay for the rescue should be dished out

we were lucky with the lights - had no idea that they were due to appear. It was the shooting stars that we were hoping to see - huge bonus for us to see the lights :) I took a load of pics on my phone but, cos its new, I didn`t figure out how to work the night shots!. I keep pressing something and was sure the images had been saved but they had not. To be fair - apart from the new phone I also have my hand restricted cos just had surgery :) Just so glad that our friend managed to get some pictures :)

Last month whilst on holiday in the UK from Australia, I took my grand kids to Scarborough to show them where I, as a toddler dug on the sands and had cruises on the "Caronia" and "Thornwick Bay" if I remember their names correctly, while an old sea dog played "Anchors Away" on an accordion. Back in the 21st century, the weather was atrocious, but we all loved the day. Thanks for the memories.

Thank you for the comments : Yes - back in the 1950s and 1960s Scarborough was a smashing place to be -things have changed, mainly due to travel abroad but we still have the fantastic beaches and scenery. I don`t remember the Thornwick bay but we did have 3 boats that were a regular feature of the harbour, taking trips up and down the coast. Coronia, Regal Lady and Yorkshire lady.

Great video - interesting - but prefer it when you are narrating… those automated voices and bots are really annoying 😫
@stevemessruther1722 ай бұрын
I started to use them because they pronounced words far better than me - but I then figured that if I do a take with them speaking I can then use their voice as a guide for myself. Well that was the plan :) I agree that the voices are a bit annoying, mainly because there is very little emotion. I used male and female to try and break it up a bit. When I started this series I used what I had available but since then I have learnt a lot and also gained more experience with better software. One big advantage now is that I use a field recorder for my voice. That then gets synced up to the camcorder which allows me to talk without all the wind noise and pops and crackles that you often get from a camcorder/phone microphone. You will be pleased to know that they are being pensioned off :)

On one of my clips someone - from Scotland - decided to make really negative comments and he seemed to think that I am putting Scotland down. That is not the case, I was supporting Scotland during their games and wanted them to win. They played some awful football and it was a shame for the fans and the team that they did not get to the last 16. England also played pretty crap but we have managed to get to the last 16 - we got further than our friends in Scotland. It`s that simple, there is no malice intended, England played crap and we got lucky that is why we are in the last 16. There have been a lot of teams who have just not turned up when it mattered - Italy for example. It`s football, shit happens.
