In what can only be described as a startling change in thought, how-ever, mainstream archaeology has acknowledged that the Bat Creek Tablet is an authentic Paleo-Hebrew inscription placed in the Bat Creek mound sometime a-round the year 437 A.D. This acknowledgement comes with the Note: Sketch of remains as they were found in the Bat Creek excavation. The Bat Creek Tablet, earspools and "copper bracelets" were found under the skull of the upside down figure on the right of the lower row. Based on a drawing in the U.S. Bureau of American Ethnology Annual Report for 1890-1891. publication of J. Huston McCul-loch's article, "The Bat Creek Inscription: Cherokee or Hebrew?", in the Fall 1988 issue of the conservative journal Tennessee Anthropologist. IT CAN'T BE CHEROKEE: McCulloch's statistical analysis of the tablet shows that it cannot be Cherokee, nor is it Phoenecian as some have suggested. It is written in Paleo-Hebrew script, a style used during the First Temple times during the period of 450 B.C. to about 200 A.D. when it was replaced by Square Hebrew script. The Bat Creek Tablet's text, "A comet for the Jews-Year 1 (or 6)" would be in line with the so-called Star Prophecy popular during the First Temple times. McCulloch notes, as have others, that authentic Paleo-Hebrew would have been virtually impossible for someone to fake or hoax in 1889. Yet proof that the Bat Creek Tablet is authentic Hebrew comes from the other artifacts found with the tablet. FURTHER PROOF: During the 19th century it was common to describe all metal ornaments and implements found in mounds as copper. In 1970 the Smithsonian analyzed the copper bracelets found with the Tablet at their Conservation Analytical Laboratory. The bracelets were found to be a copper alloy with 27 per cent zine and 3.3 per cent lead (known as "leaded yellow brass"). In 1977 and 1978, Paul Craddock performed a similar analysis of brass artifacts at the British Museum. Craddock found that artifacts similar to the Bat Creek bracelets were Copper alloys with 27 per cent zinc and a little over 3 per cent lead. These all came from a narrow time frame: 45 .c. to 200 A.D., and a well-defined area: the Eastern Mediterranean. The cementation process of producing the leaded brass alloy was never known in ancient North America, and the process producing 27 per cent zinc and 3 per cent lead was only used for the relatively brief time period and defined geographical area listed above. Thus, the bracelets found with the Bat Creek Tablet were produced sometime between 45 B.C. to 200 A.D. in the general area of the Eastern Mediterranean. Another one of the reasons that the Bat Creek Tablet was originally declared Cherokee was because of the polished wooden fragments found with the tablet. Note: THE BAT CREEK TABLET: (10 per cent reduction in actual size) Since the time of its discovery, the Bat Creek Tablet has been kept in the Smithsonian. The reverse side of the Tablet shows no markings. It reads, "A comet for the Jews, year 1 (or year 6)." Cyrus Thomas, director of the Smithsonian's mound survey project, prepared the life-size rendering (first published in 1890) on which this drawing is based. Cyrus Thomas thought they should have deteriorated more if they had been entombed for an extended period. In addition, wooden earspools were common among the 19th century Cherokee. Because the weight of evidence was beginning to point to the Paleo-Hebrew origin of the Bat Creek Tablet, the wooden fragments became increasingly important. In September 1987 the Columbus, Georgia-based Institute for the Study of American Cultures paid for an expensive accelerator mass spectroscopy on the wooden fragments. This specialized radiocarbon analysis for small samples showed that the fragments were produced between 240 A.D. to 638 A.D. They were certainly not of recent origin. In short, the Bat Creek Tablet is a genuine Paleo-Hebrew artifact written sometime between 450 B.C. and 200 A.D. The bracelets found with the tablet are a leaded yellow brass produced in the Mediterranean during the time frame of 45в.c. and 200 A.D. Finally, the polished wooden fragments were probably made around 437 A.D. INESCAPABLE CONCLUSION: Some ancient Hebrews came to North America. Either their descendants or others with their artifacts ventured to the Little Tennessee River Valley where they died and were carefully and ritually buried together. Several major questions remain. Why Tennessee? How did they cross the Atlantic? How many came? Most importantly: Why did they make the perilous journey to begin with? McCulloch notes in his article that when Hernando DeSoto explored the southeastern portion of America in 1542 he landed in Florida, went north over the Alleghenies and camped in the Tennessee Valley. In fact, it is now known that DeSoto camped for six days on the Little Tennessee River, only 12 miles from the Bat Creek mounds. The Tennessee River Valley was fairly populated in ancient times because it was an area with excellent natural food resources, water pathways and favorable weather. Could crossings of the Atlantic have been made in ancient times?🤔 The answer to this is an incontrovertible yes. It is now known that seagoing wooden merchant ships regularly traveled the Mediterranean as early as 1500 B.C. In recent times, groups of fearless adventurers have proven that transatlantic voyages are possible in everything from reed-wicker baskets to rafts to leather buckets. There is no doubt that Ancient Atlantic crossings could have taken place, given the proper motive. In Leo Kadman's 1960 book, The Coins of the Jewish War of 66-73 C.E. he tells us that ancient Joppe (Jaffa) was the base of the Judean navy in the first century. In 68 A.D., the Romans decisively beat the Judean navy and went on to capture Jerusalem in 70 A.D. According to Kadman, until this battle the Jewish fleet was of sufficient size and strength to control the sea between Egypt, Syria and Phoenicia. Most of us are familiar with this time period because of the extreme cruelty Romans showed their prisoners. The entire population of Jerusalem was massa-cred, enslaved or forced to die as gladiators, often in combat with wild animals. The last holdouts of the Jewish War were at Masada. In 73 A.D., the entire garrison at Masada chose suicide rather than Roman capture. There is no dispute among historians or archaeologists as to the authenticity of the Jewish War or the existence of a sophisticated and extensive Jewish navy. McCulloch theorizes that a few surviving ships of the Jewish navy escaped the Koman-controlled Mediterranean through the Straits of Gibraltar into the Atlantic. They eventually found their way to the coast of North America. McCulloch concludes that the Bat Creek Tablet was made by a small group of Paleo-Hebrews who survived and escaped Roman capture during the Jewish War. When they arrived in North America, they were assimilated into the native population and passed along the Tablet and their bracelets to their descendants as sacred heirlooms. Eventually they migrated to the Little Tennessee River Valley where their descendants died and were buried around the year 437 with high honors from the Native Americans. McCulloch's article may someday be seen as a turning point in American archaeology. Mainstream archaeology has long ignored or dismissed the many, many artifacts found scattered across North America that seem to be intrusions from non-indigenous cultures. Barry Fell and others have gone a long way in showing that these artifacts point to a necessary revision in ancient history. McCulloch's article is the first incontrovertible proof of this, and the Tennessee Anthropologist should be commended for printing the article.

Oct. 17 Burgoyne surrenders his entire army at Saratoga. News of Burgoyne's surrender electrifies Europe and gives an enormous boost to the American cause. Looking Ahead: (Pg- 371/Black Interpreters Living Among The Absentee Shawnee Indians In Early Central Oklahoma Book) One hundred years after the Civil War, U.S. citizens were still reeling from Reconstruction. The interrelations among American Indians, blacks, and whites were still going through upheavals. The Indians had been forced onto reservations, and as Indian policy changed, were stripped of their governments, given U.s. citizenship, and subsumed into mainstream American culture, which was deemed to be superior. New settlers had clamored for and acquired land on the western frontier where Indians once lived, at the cost of "Indian wars." Slavery had been pronounced “dead," and enslaved blacks were set free. Blacks, who once lived in close proximity to whites, were then given u.s. citizenship, disenfranchised, and segregated from other citizens. The Indian Territory, though it should not have been involved in the Civil War, or the "Indian wars," was forced into the conflicts and bore the brunt of them. The territory in which the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, Seminole, and other American Indians lived-on land that was to be theirs forever-was redistricted and other tribes moved in, followed by non-Indians. Indian Territory ceased to exist, and the lives of the Indians and those who lived among them, by invitation, went through rapid changes. Histories that describe these complex events, the changing constructions of race and identity after the Civil war, and more recently the relationships among American Indians, blacks, and whites in Indian Territory after the war are silent about the changes in the interrelations of Indians, blacks, and whites who lived in what is known today as central Oklahoma. William Ellsworth Shawnee, a black Quaker who lived among the Absentee Shawnees in central Oklahoma, in his diary offers Absentee Shawnee language lessons and hints at those interrelations. The lives of his Indian friends and his family, who once enjoyed close relationships in Indian Territory, were forced out of their comfort zone into the United States, where the changing constructions of race and identity forced them into separate black and white worlds. A hundred years after the Civil War, the federal government acknowledged that federal policies had not been working for all of its citizens. Civil rights legislation ensued to offer equal protection to all U.S. citizens without disenfranchising them, segregating them, denying them their cultural traditions, or forcing them to identify with racial categories that they did not understand. William Ellsworth Shawnee's diary provides additional information on Absentee Shawnee history and the history of their black interpreters. It allows us to examine a group of Indians who voluntarily adopted blacks as citizens after the Civil War and to see how their paths diverged from an Indian world to separate black and white worlds over time, through the intervention of others, and ultimately to a world in which all U.S. citizens are finally considered as equals. Source: The Ohio History Connection In May of that year, Odawa Chief Pontiac (Chief Obwandiyag) quietly and secretly organized Native tribes from the Alleghenies to the upper Great Lakes, to rise up against the British army and colonists. Pontiac was able to build a coalition of tribes, organizing across cultures, languages, and political organization, to bring war against the British when the threat of genocide and colonization superseded other political concerns. One of the deadliest battles in Pontiac’s War (sometimes called “Pontiac’s Rebellion” or “Pontiac’s Conspiracy”) was the five-month siege on Fort Detroit. Chief Pontiac led Ottawas, Ojibwas, Potawatomis, and Hurons in a failed attempt to take the fort that was garrisoned by the English, but they claimed some victory in skirmishes around the Fort when reinforcements were called: On July 31st, a group of about 260 British soldiers intent on breaking the siege attacked Pontiac’s nearby encampment along the creek. Pontiac’s forces fought off their attackers, killing commanding officer Captain James Dalyell in the process. In reference to the battle’s carnage, Parent’s Creek earned a new name - Bloody Run. Today, much of the stream runs underground, having been incorporated into the sewer system over the years. Detroit Historical Society Despite the Native coalition’s success at the Battle of Bloody Run and elsewhere, like at Fort Michilimackinac, their victories were short-lived. The British claimed victory in 1766 when Pontiac signed a peace treaty with William Johnson, the British Superintendent of Indian Affairs. A Peoria warrior killed him several years later and historians theorize that Pontiac was resented, perhaps as a traitor, among some Native people after capitulating to their enemy.
