I understand that this video is 9yrs old. However, it is what appears when I search for "How does the CertainTeed ridge vent work?" I'm an end-customer, not a contractor, and this has unfortunately not shown me how it works. It simply states that it creates low/high pressure. It does not tell me how, nor does it tell me how it mitigates incoming rainfall or blown rain. Just thought I'd mention as customers look things up these days. An updated video may be beneficial. What that said, I know you're not a small company. So sales are working :).

over driven nailing in ridge vents must be what often causes them to look so freakin bad as they appear wavy and buckle as mentioned in the vid... maybe its the nailing guns... it would seem hand nailing these carefully would give the better result

Is there a video from Certainteed that shows exactly how to correctly install the Certainteed Mountain Ridge ridge caps? I'm most wanting to see how the very first 'leader' cap shingle is cut, glued, and/or nailed along with the starter strip beneath it. I also want to see how the last (terminating) cap shingle is installed. Thanks!!

well im dissagree about nailing the step flashing,we do nail in the lower corner so dont lift the shingle also doesnt fall,nail in the wall in new construction is another stuff

All of the nails driven are either over penetrated or crooked. Certainteed prohibits this. Just freeze the video and look.

When will your heavy weight Landmark shingles and GrandManor shingles be revised to have wind-strip nail zone & polymer coating (similar to IKO Nordic shingle) ? Those improvements would put Certainteed back in the lead among the shingle companies.

The video should have been done with more detail for your average idiot trying to figure out how to do this. And it is hard to see why the nails on the sloped roof are down so low, they are barely covered by the next course on top.

Say no to 50/50. Why? the building is better off with slight positive pressure [a few pascals] in an attic. Go 60/40 [eaves vs ridge]. There is both a very slight difference of air density on account of elevation differential, plus hot air both wants to rise and expand, gaining some velocity. Go look at a set of cylinder heads for an example of proof of concept: intake valve is big, exhaust is small - its worked well for almost a century. You get a little extra help keeping sheathing dry if minor moisture ingress exists, plus it assists against negative ventilation issues inside, which would add to aircon bills and humidity control problems.

However, I have had ongoing issues with torn and ripping tabs with my CertainTeed Belmont Roof Shingles in the past 4+ years. I have reached out to CertainTeed many times without any help or any solutions. The Problem - In October 2017, I had a CertainTeed Belmont Impact Resistance roof, with upgraded wind warranty of 15 years 130 mph wind-resistance, installed by a certified CertainTeed Shingle Master. However, my CertainTeed Belmont Impact Resistance Roof Shingles have many loose tabs, and I can lift some tabs easily with my fingertip since these loose tabs are not bonded together. On windy days with winds up to only 40 mph, these loose tabs have flipped up, torn, and come off the roof from the wind. There has been a total of 10 different times when tabs have flipped up, torn, or come off (affecting 13 total tabs) since 2019.
