Today there’s a new bournville college on the right side of the picture The car works of longbridge who does rovers and MGs that’s all gone and the old longbridge station building seen on the left is now being demolished And that old bridge seen in the background of the clip that’s been taken away

I feel sorry for all Brummies around there. I visited Birmingham a while back and would not visit again. I would have visited it in the 80's. It is sad what your city and all cities have become. Another world to the one you remember with great fondness and sadness like mourning a dear old friend. It's called progress apparently. Oh to be a teenager then.

Oh it is just as dire as I remember it in the 80s. Then they spent a fortune on renovations and it is still dire. And they forgot to spend money on the housing estates, so they have become even worse over time. It is as miserable a place as Nuneaton. And I have lived in both.

Brings back a lot of memories. I grew up 1/2 a mile away from Round Oak. Neither of my parents worked there, but it did hit the town hard from what i remember. The clock building on Dudley road was till standing for quite some years after Round Oak closed, there were some small business's in there, a cafe was one. I had a Saturday job at the petrol station in Harts Hill (around 1987 to 1989) and would go there to collect the sandwiches' for the guys in the garage.

Feels like yesterday I was walking around there and it looking like that, but it has changed so much since. Edit: Who remembers Summit records upstairs, and Reddingtons at it's various sites? Tempest etc. Loved shopping for vinyl in Birmingham. I was doing photography as part of my art course and have some great photos from around the Bullring taken in 1985... people doing their chalk art on the streets and the onlookers.

The most famous road in all the Midlands I'd have thought. I remember having to tuck my money away when going through on the bus. Still has significant issues but Handsworth is a vibrant melting pot that eptimoses Brum and I love it.

Loved it. I'm not sure if it's still there but behind and up a bit you'd have the big Virgin megastore on the corner, and places like Oasis with little one-off shops inside.

Excellent video of the fight for rights in the Asian and black communities against the evil Tory government under the abominable Margaret Thatcher/John major etc and her abominable policies driving people into poverty and despair back in 1992 I wish I could have been there in person side by side in their fight for rights God bless each and everyone of these ladies and gentlemen 🙏

Within the last few weeks chain making has been added to the list of critically endangered crafts with only 1-5 professional chainmakers left. You can still see demonstrations of forging chain in Cradley Heath at Mushroom Green. The chainshop there is open to visitors in the summer, on every second sunday of month from 2 pm. The team of volunteers there provide a friendly, educational environment for all ages and visitors themselves often become part of the experience by recounting memories of our industrial past and the chainmakers they knew. Well worth a visit to this unbecoming little hamlet and its hidden link to the past. You will be made very welcome.
