Still sounds more cutting-edge and forward-thinking than most things released at the moment. The 2000s in general were in the future with their reduced/micro sounds. The retro quite invaded arts & entertainments when hipsters were born, and we're still stuck in this retro miasmah. A lot of people say that this scene aged badly. I strongly disagree. This ultra precise, educated, surgical way to craft music is one of the most interesting things that ever happened to music, and sounds like human culture at its climax to me. Scenes that came after (and it started with the return of classic deep house at the end of the 2000s) sound like a kind of regression in some way (at least for my humble sensitivity).

People don't realise Villalobos created micro house in 2000' and it's peaked popularity just recently. It's like in rock. U can't just appreciate a recent band without understand where it came from.

Current techno is MISSING percussion that a lot of these tracks have. Bring back the percussion! Latin, African, middle eastern, martian - ALL OF IT has been put to the side. You know why?? Because of the white washing, straight edge european techno producers influence. Ouch. Don't get me wrong I love my german and English dudes, and their influence, but C'mon on man! It's not their fault though. Their popularity and commercial appeal reigns supreme. So PLEASE upcoming techno producers, bring some heat! Latin, african, martian, columbian, middle eastern....inject the flavor! Peace
