I used to be a pretty good classical baritone. And I had a great voice teacher. He had studied with Oren Brown. He kept telling me that I had to get deeper into this text. One day, he asked me whether I was A Christian. I am now. But I was then an agnostic. And he told me "You can be any agnostic you wanna be, but when you sing this, you have to be a Christian, damn your ass!"

Found this while talking about Richter with my mother. She casually mentioned seeing him at the Teatro Colon conducting the St Matthew's Passion. Was completely schocked when I shared this with her. Thank you for preserving this happy memory for her.

Questa canzone cantata da R. Alagna è tutta un'altra cosa. Specie nel finale è bellissima con quella nota acuta che solo i cantanti d'opera possono fare. Pur essendo io un baritono autodidatta, prenderò spunto da questa ottima esibizione per cantare questa bella canzone.

Overall, a very fine performance of the Serenade, but marred slightly by an almost whispered low note and a spread in the vibrato on the sustained high note, which is sung here as a B-flat. A young tenor with this much potential and stage presence should have a fine career.

Well, I'm happy that a younger generation is inspired by the young American Caruso, Maestro Mario Lanza. This fellow has learned of Mario Lanza and channels that energy well. So Bravo here and the voice of our dear Mario is not superceded; Mario’s legacy is a standard!

Мелодия просто шикарная, как и исполнение. Это вам не зайка моя я твой тазик. Круто было бы сделать место где бы исполняли такие песни, и люди были бы одеты как тогда, и вся атмосфера и обстановка была тех времён, что бы казалось что ты попал в прошлое.

These are from discs belonging to the former METROPOLITAN RECORD CLUB series available back in the day through subscription, I believe. My college music dept. archives had a few of them & this was one. These were all abridged recordings of the operas & most featured second string artists not usually in the first cast of MET productions although an exception to that was made here. Surprisingly that Kurt Baum, not a favorite of mine at least in live performance, sings Manrico‘s cabaletta in key & better, in fact, than on other occasions that I have heard. from him. Curtis-Verna although not in Tebaldi or Milanov‘s league does pretty good work here & the MET would be lucky to have her these days, IMO. Guarrrera‘s instrument was darker in timbre here than was vocally healthy for him overall , in this role anyway but does some good work although he made his mark primarily as one of the MET‘s best singing actors wherein his notable achievements were better realized than in a role like Di Luna.
