What are the odds a couple Dwarf magnolia suckers I cut will root in a bucket of water. ?

Probably a long shot. Have occasionally started cuttings in a pot with the planting mix described in the video. Good luck!

Mine is right under the ceiling, will water be sprayed on the ceiling and make stains?
@herbcrosbyАй бұрын
Should be no problem. Cleaning water goes into a catch bib attached to the heat pump and is drained into a bucket below. About a gallon of water is used.

Helpful. I used a pipe from an old shelter garage to help knock the new bwaring down in. I used wood too. The pipe goes around the whole rod.

Thanks for your comment. Here is a link with some photos today. The first shows some of the 2 yer old cuttings in an outdoor holding bed. The next shows a recently planted cutting of "Yellow Lantern". The third shows some magnolia seedlings planted last month, another great way to propagate magnolias. photos.app.goo.gl/2LyXoM2rE23o45uh7

deep-clean = motor+wheel need to come out.. then take a look inside FROM BELOW WITH A FLASHLIGHT and realize that spraying active foam + some water will not remove the mold in the condensers + the corrosion that is going on in those devices.

I just got some cuttings from my neighbor but it’s not any green ones. It’s the actually wood part with buds. Will it still root ?
@herbcrosby3 ай бұрын
Suspect you may need to wait and take the cuttings in June. You can also grow magnolias from seeds collected in the fall.

Any tips for removing the tine holders to access the seals? Mine are stuck pretty good, a hammer isn't doing the job.
@herbcrosby3 ай бұрын
Mine had been off before and were easier. I gave them a hard hit with crowbar from the side. Penetrating oil or heat may also help. Good luck.
@nelagmor76473 ай бұрын
I just took mine off. Gentle heat and penetrating oil was the answer. I used the bearing buddy formable coil with my induction heater on the tine holder. Or a heat gun if you dont have that....then a few taps with a mallet and aluminum or brass bar on the tine holder and the both came off pretty easily. There's a couple nice flat flanges on the tine holder where the tines ride that gets a good purchase for something metal and punch like.

You say you have some apple scion grafted onto full size rootstock that haven’t produced apples in 20 years. Do you attribute that to lack of pollination compatibility, lack of pollinators, variety of scion, or the rootstock itself? Which variety of standard rootstock are you saying hasn't produced apples in 20 years? Thanks for sharing your experience.
