Take a boozy short leave...I presume this refers to having drunk beer. Can anyone tell me why some versions have bowsey which means something different?

Very, very good interpretation! For me Purcell's one and only opera is the most beautiful baroque opera ever composed. I fell in love with "Dido and Aeneas" 1988 in the age of 18. And though I haven't listened to this opera since about 1990 I still can sing every vocal department (is this the right expression?) of this opera. "Come away fellow sailors" was and is my favourit. Greetings from Germany!
