Where did you get a mojo inshore rod with split foam grips? I can't find that on St.Croix's website. Thanks!
@mojobudgiekayakfishing14 күн бұрын
It's actually heat shrink tubing over split cork grips. This is the previous generation mojo inshore.. I think a 2019 build, its caught over 1k ocean fish.. some really big ones too. I think the new models are all full grips fwiw

I bought one of these for a hikeable motorcycle setup.. Money well spent. When a company can make the same boat for 20-30 years and virtual zero negative reviews.. you can breath easy. First impressions are it's incredibly well made, and I've owned several inflatable variations. The material feels incredibly similar to one of my very expensive rafts that is now somewhere around 40 years old, heavily abused and still loyal. *I expect many many many years from this.

Looks like you were high sticking. Common mistake that most people will blame on the rod.

Striped bass and blues seem to be nonexistent in the bay. I was out Monday loads of bait. Bothing on them. I did see a dragger in Sakonnet which I thought was unusual then I saw a wind farm boat getting to close interrupted me when I was looking for Tog near Hog Island.
@mojobudgiekayakfishingАй бұрын
Thanks for the intel! Come to think about it, I havent seen a striper in the bay since early June.. been running into blues whenever the wind/waves cooperated.. up to 2 weeks ago though. I didn't know the wind farm boats were already operating that far north?? It's going to change things up for sure...

Quick question what size of pvc pipe did you use?
@mojobudgiekayakfishing2 ай бұрын
That was 1.5” pvc schedule 40, but the exterior width was too wide for the built-in rod holders so I had to weld the 1.5” it with an even smaller PVC pipe to get it to fit in at a decent depth. I think I got that smaller pipe in the kitchen sink aisle the drain pipe that would go underneath the sink… But hey before you do any of that take a look at this mod I did, where I basically cut existing rod holders out and replaced it with legitimate ones. Way better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnSxn6SZZshje9Esi=5JVd6vhXxyIjm6QR

Wow, your modifications are extreme! Might as well just go with a rigid kayak? Anyway I agree with your findings, I have the 330, seats are too bulky, rudders to shallow to successfully track the kayak.

zero quality control on these, missing seam tape, not glued, peels right off, nothing is welded. seams all leak. fabric tears easily with not even sharp debris. every single coleman tent made recently that i have used, leaks horribly in a medium to light rain. i don't know how it could even be possible for them to make a tent that doesn't leak. the poles litetally rip apart and shatter in wind. structure is completely unstable. fabric degrades in only a couple weeks of sunlight then rips to shreds. guylines are the same. outer coating turns to actual dust and toxic powder, inner snaps after a month of use under mild tension. stakes become rusty and fused to tent rings after a few uses in moderate humidity. almost the worst possible quality tents anymore. complete rip off junk, disposable garbage, use a few times and throw your new tent money away to the trash.

What do you think paddling wise. Which is better this one or the access?
@mojobudgiekayakfishing3 ай бұрын
Oh good question. Pure paddling the access 11.5 was best. Greater speed. Tracking in both is about the same. The sound 9.5 could maneuver much much better though, but was noticeably slower. Fwiw, I sold the access years ago and upgraded to hobie pedal kayaks. I kept the sound and still use it in small ponds.
@anthonybazis10233 ай бұрын
We have a form of both of these kayaks. I love them both. I think they are both great paddling boats.
@mojobudgiekayakfishing3 ай бұрын
they're both really good platforms... the access 11.5 was a little awkward with the built int seat, but it paddled grreat, tracked great and was surprisingly fast
@anthonybazis10233 ай бұрын
Yeah, I end up adding a seat and pad eyes on mine. It seems to paddle efficiently and track well. The Lifetime is quick and maneuverable.

Once motorized, don't most states require you to register it with the state?
@mojobudgiekayakfishing3 ай бұрын
That’s correct. Massachusetts definitely does
@TrueHelpTV20 күн бұрын
really dig into the states general statutes, there is often some verbiage actually that says if it's only form of propulsion is electric (not withstanding paddles) then you are exempt from registering if it's power is less than somewhere between a 5 and 10 hp equivalent. For instance what is coined as the boating safety act in North Carolina, NCGS 75A-2. Definitions. 1(e) "Motorboat" means any vessel equipped with propulsion machinery of any type, whether or not the machinery is the principal source of propulsion: _Provided, that "propulsion machinery" as used in this section shall not include an electric motor when used as the only means of mechanical propulsion of any vessel._ In that scenario you have to be careful though, for instance if the boat was registered in the past, then you need to "turn in" your registration numbers, or at the very least cover them up or you will be subject to issues with having on displayed something expired. Whereas with Massachusetts, they define motorboat as "''Motorboat'',-any vessel propelled by machinery whether or not such machinery is the principal source of propulsion, but not a vessel which has a valid marine document issued by the Bureau of Customs of the United States government or any federal agency successor thereto. " ((General Laws Part I Title XIV Chapter 90B Section 1 )) With no outlined exemptions to fit the bill under their state's section two.. Point being.. always check the official legislation definitions and exemptions for your given state and don't just take the registration document at face value because they'll happily let you register a boat that doesn't require it; sometimes the registration documentation will make it seem like you need it when you don't in the case of NC provided there isn't any gas systems and the electric engine is under a certain power rating, and the boat is within the minimum lengths that don't trigger registration requirements, but you always do in MA..
