I have a 2001 yamaha vstar 1100. While changing the starer clutch I messed up and got the bike outta time. What do I do now??? Need help thank you,!

Maybe you could tell me where I went wrong. I replaced the starter clutch in my 01 1100 v star custom. First time in I wasn't aware of springs and bearings. When I finally did get the clutch to break free I found all six of both installed the clutch still no starter. Took it out again found your video realized I had to remove the gear behind it and go back in together. Well by then I wasn't sure my timing was off so taking what you said about lining up every ten rotations I just kept turning until I could line up my marks. Got it all in now it cranks but no spark. What if any damage could my ignorance of this procedure cost me.

Be careful when temporarily installing the crank case cover if the engines at TDC there isn't much tension on the starter idler gear especially with the plugs out when you take the cover back off the dowl Will pop out and you'll have to mess with the gear to get it back in place. Happend to me 3 times until I finally figured out what was happening

I'm in a situation where I've got one of these all apart and have to completely redo the timing. This is the most comprehensive video I've seen. I'm going to have to do a lot of pausing and rewatching, but you're definitely going to get me through it. Thanks!

I'm afraid I may need to also, I hope not. Good luck! I'm praying for you.

Superb video, My father in law is pulling his hair out trying to figure this out on his own and asked me for help, like you said the manual is all over the place and this cleared it up for me. Thankyou so much.

I replaced my won clutch and fluid change, thinking it would fix my 1st gear disengaging after going about 10 mph. Any ideas what that could be? Ive searched the manual and it could be the forks but i haven’t seen any videos on this being replaced. 02 vstar 1100

thanks a million , sir . im working on an 1100 virago but it all seems the same . intermediate timing marks dont seem crucial because timing can still be achieved by jumping chain teeth on the camshaft . i think the manuals make it seem more complicated than it is . id note that its important to make sure that compression on each cylinder directly oppose each other . i think it could be possible to get them 180 out ( both compressing at the same time ) . feel free to correct me if im wrong .

Wonderful video. However the cam shaft timing gear marks do not align no matter what I do yet all other timing marks do in fact align. After some considerable research, I found a Yamaha bulletin that (making a long story short) the two cam shaft timing marks in question need not necessarily align as long as all other do, principally the rear timing marks at TDC.
@chubbssstuff31014 жыл бұрын
Hey man...I cant find that bulletin, can you please share a link? Thanks !
@JoseSanchez-my1us4 жыл бұрын
@@chubbssstuff3101 Sorry brother I didn't save the link I only printed out the 4 page bulletin. But to clarify, the bulletin mentions that if the timing marks in question align but the cam chain drive gear alignment hole does not then the crank needs to be advanced (clockwise) 2 turns at a time until they do. In my case I followed that procedure but the alignment hole would not line up no matter how many times I rotated the crank shaft. What I did then was to insure that ALL marks were properly aligned and the #1 piston (rear cylinder) was a TDC, then reassembled. It worked! The engine worked just fine until it was time to store for the winter.

Do you have to pull the motor to accomplish this?

can you list the #'s on those tools? plz

This looks like it should be the same procedure for an 82 virago xv750!

Used this video in Nov. 2018 to time my brother's V-Star 1100 Silverado. The bike belonged to his deceased father and he is very happy to see it running again. It stopped running last year around a week after my brother experienced a mild heart attack. It's a bit of a milestone to see it running again. Thank you, very much!

Hi again, I have another problem, Maybe you can help me, you seems to know a lot about motors. Is the cam timing procedure the same on a Yamaha Virago 1100 from 94. Do you know that ?. I can´t find any information about this on KZbin. Thanks

I bought a Haynes shop manual for my V Star 1100 shortly after I bought it that cover 97 -05 year models. Now my impression is the no matter whether the model is called Virago, V Star or Drag Star, the 1100 engine was the same for all. I cannot attest for certain that that is the case but from what I have seen in the Haynes manual I have and you tube videos and the fact that most manufacturers avoid retooling, I suspect the engine to be the same for all models mentioned.

how long should you expect a job like this to take?
@ramzimatta78098 жыл бұрын
Its not a huge job but if you dont have the tools it will be challenging. An Impact wrench will help hugely and I wouldnt attempt it if I didnt have one. The fly wheel can be seriously stuck on the shaft and quite a challenge to release. If all goes well perhaps 3 to 4 hours but if the fly wheel is stuck on could take longer.

@@marsflee3815 are you talking about the fly wheel? i used a gear puller not a hammer .

I did mine using this video and found it very useful. one thing to remember that this video doesn't tell you, is that sometimes the marks on the cam sprockets don't align . this is ok if your bike has a few miles on it as the cam chains have stretched and there will be a slight misalignment when you do your assembly. you should do a cross check making sure that the cylinder is at TDC. My other issue was that i completed the job and found that the bike was backfiring under load when I first started it up. I was very concerned that I hadn't meshed the gears correctly so I dismantled the bike again and rebuilt it only to find the same issue. Frustrated I parked the bike for a week and couldn't face it. In complete frustration I started the bike and rode 2 km to find that the chains had settled in tension and the bike ran like a dream . moral of the story is be patient and do it carefully. I wouldn't attempt this job without a rattle gun and a puller, the removal of the fly wheel was an mammoth undertaking and not for the fainthearted.

Oi from Brasil. Great video. I don´t if you can help me but I have a Yamaha virago 1100 from 1995 and i´m putting it back together again. In your video 2:40 LH side. There are 2 marks on the camdrive center line. On the virago there are not these marks. What do I do and how do I do it the right way. Thank you.
@ramzimatta78098 жыл бұрын
you could try setting the mark on the flywheel to top dead center then verify that the cylinder is at TDC by taking out the spark plug and inserting a screw driver in and checking as the cylinder rises and when it starts to fall. set it all up then double check that you got it right. also check that both itake and exhaust valves are on the rock.
