Thanks! This was a great day, we both progressed from the 35’s to 32’s and were helping each other improve throughout the day. There’s areas where I’m much quicker than Gary but then times where I’m holding him up. I’ve not been back since but hopefully when I go again I can get back to where I was and progress from there

Its a long time since I have done Croft , and tbh I wasnt lapping as fast as you . But looking at it you could gain a bit time on the Jim Clarke esses with a better line , in fact a lot of time is lost is just getting out of a corner in the right line to get the power on early at Croft . A 1000 can be quite hard at first round Croft , in fact a 600 can lap a really good pace round there basically because of the quick direction changes needed .
@Fishter1
@Fishter1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! Yeah I’d quite like to try a 600 round there, I definitely need to get braver at using the power of the 1000 more out of corners and as you say line choice would help too. As you saw the next time I went there I instantly knocked 3 seconds off and was down into the 32’s although seeing that video I can see areas I can still improve further as there were many places where I was almost holding Gary on the triumph up even though I had more power.

Thanks mate! I’ve since invested in a chin mount by dango designs which I think gives much greater angles etc so be sure to check out some of my newer videos. There’s some great lanes over Pately Bridge and Hawes way which are longer and better than these ones. The best thing I did for finding lanes was by joining GLASS which gave me access to TW2. It’s a map that lists all of the lanes in the UK. There’s also some decent Facebook groups where you can ask for people to show you routes/guide you etc

@@Fishter1 It is a serious business dont play at it. You are missing apexes because you are tired. If you are tired you are wasting your time and a danger to yourself and others. To do a fast lap you have to nail the apexes on every turn, and sequence of turns, that gets you maximum power out from the corner and best braking, turning in time. I raced a modified 250 X7 at Croft in 1981, best placed position was second. It only had around 35 BHP (Beckett tuned no air filter) but I had the front end chattering braking into Tower bend and the rear wheel sliding out of Tower and Sunni. A race day for me at Croft was 2 x 5 lap practice sessions and 3 x 5 lap races, that left me knackered as a fit as a butchers dog 21 year old. Endlessly cruising around, repeating the same errors doesnt improve anything at all, it just gets people hurt.
@Fishter1
@Fishter1 Жыл бұрын
@@johnbrewer8954 thanks for the feedback. I visited Croft a few weeks after this and knocked 3 seconds off my time. I’ve not been back since though. I wasn’t racing and this was just a trackday which is essentially for fun, I don’t claim to be fast, or the fastest I just go out to have fun, and try and do so safely, but obviously like to see progression. Appreciate your comments regarding tiredness, this was the last session of what I recall being a hot day so fatigue will definitely have played a part…

@@Fishter1 I only started racing for a "dare" after a few beers one night I said to a friend of mine who raced "I wouldnnt mind a go" A couple of weeks later he came around to my house and told me about an almost new X7 write off, "are you interested or are you full of BS" So I got the X7 200 pounds, new front wheel tuning steering damper and ace bars, another 200 pounds and I was good to go. It was great fun, the guys I raced against I went out on the lash with when it was a Saturday and Sunday meeting. In 1982 I did most rounds of the ACU Marlboro championship. I took the guy who won it (Mick Crick) in my van to the Thruxton and Lydden rounds, y that time I was serious about it but it was also great fun. At that level 10 laps at race pace was as much as most could manage, to progress you really have to work on fitness and drink less beer. Mick Crick went on to compete in internationals, he said it wasnt harder or faster in itself, you just had to do what was your best lap before every lap, and for more laps. Good luck and enjoy but watch for tiredness, it can be expensive.

Agree John, Did Croft on my RD400C (PVN321R, you may remember the numberplate still on) Mitchie S41 PZ2 and 4's, as i could not afford the KR124's. 1 m 23s +/- 1-2 sec was my times. late apex tower, Flatout into and out of esses, still pegging it barcroft, earlyish off the brakes into sunny, pegged railway straight, late apex oxo smooth neurtal throttle whitehouse and long long pull to chicane, never got chicane very well as the railway sleepers did put me off. went through about 4 litres of water per meeting and was very knackered for the ride home (only 8 miles) sometimes would miss the last race as you say tired makes you a danger to all. no where nr the Ian lwson, ray hutch etc but mid pack, had a good dice with the waltling brothers, best 3 years of my life. missd thr aces on last day (Oct 17th 1981) as tank slapper round to chicane on 2nd practice, lost f master cylinder and hole in clutch case. the 600cc bikes are faster round the new circuit than the 1000's. Paraded my Z500 round Croft the last 3 years at the CRMC meetings, nice to see some of the bumps still there (chicane, tower Etc.) Makes an old man very happy. regards@@johnbrewer8954
