I love that you can find almost anything online these days. Spatula was one of the first underground bands I ever saw live. It would have been 1994 and I would have been 14. I lived in Durham and they were from Chapel Hill. I believe the first time I saw them was at the Duke Coffeehouse.

I saw them there maybe my first weekend at UNC in August or early September 1995 and it was an unforgettable show. Great to see Chuck Johnson still making music these days.

Since I posted this I realized they're on Instagram: @ district_17_the_band. Lot of great pics and anecdotes there They were from California (maybe Berkeley?). I believe most of the stuff on this is scrounged together from other releases, incl. a split LP w/ another CA band called Port Radium and possibly a couple of 7-inches. While looking around on last.fm I saw that one of the members had been putting out music under the name Panner 15 years ago or so-- not sure what happened to that stuff
