Happy birthday Ross! And thanks so much for this great review of A Death in Diamonds. I'm impressed that you're already so far through it! A lovely thing for an author to see on a wet Saturday afternoon. I'm a big fan of Sarwat's too, and the Aliya book looks wonderful. Love your book haul. SJ Bennett

I just finished A Death In Diamonds, and as much as I loved the other 3, this is the best one yet 😊 I think the 1950s setting has allowed some fascinating storytelling - the historical details, albeit slightly altered for narrative reasons - were excellent. I didn't know Daphne Du Maurier knew the Queen! I can't wait for The Queen Who Came In From The Cold!

Hey Ross! Haven't commented in a while, but I'm still kicking, watching your videos pretty consistently. Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this question, but have you ever gotten feedback about the volume quality on your vids? I pretty consistently (across desktop and mobile) find that your audio is simply too quiet. Especially on mobile. I'm guessing that's something you can affect on your end? My thinking is that it doesn't hurt to be a bit louder than needed, so people can adjust the sound quality to their liking. Right now, I have no way of increasing the volume of your vids. Even with the desktop volume and KZbin app volume maxed out, you don't come through loud enough for me. I did some tests and this is consistent across many years of vids. By the way, the issue is particularly prevalent with headphones. Normal audio through desktop speaker is passable. I could just be talking out my rear end, maybe this is just an issue on my end? However I have checked with 3 or 4 different types of headphones, ear buds, ear phones, Bluetooth, wired etc. and the audio comes out quiet through all of them. Do you think it's an issue with the level of audio captured during the filming? Or is it a matter of selecting the volume when you publish the vid? Have you ever tested your vids on different devices/headphones to see what it's like? Cheers.

Hey, been a while! I'm using the built-in microphone of the ipad. I can check the settings, but whenever I've played the vids back on different devices there hasn't been an issue with the volume when I've been listening to them (other than an occasional mumble that hasn't been picked up by the mic)

I'm a little late, but a very happy birthday! I also like books from the children's or young adult section. Very entertaining. I also love sci-fi. Edgar Rice Burroughs is a dear favorite, As is Isaac Asimov. I also read all of the Agatha Christie books when I was 14, one summer when I spent all my time at the library.

Aaaah Sequel Trilogy is in it, that a big no go zone for me, i simply dont want to support ST, the beginning of the book is nice - so maybe when they release it without ST but would put the battles from Expanded universe in it, it would be worth buying. Thanx for the review.

Are there more crossections like the Luthens ship ? This seems to be a better guide than the mandalorian one (which was not a visual guide) but im missing some locations and more crossections and details on the weapons/gadgets - the things where you find out they used a womens razor for a comlink :)

Hmmm, I’m not sure, I’d have to check, but this VD and the other one I got recently (the one with the food section) are among the best ones for details and factoids compared to the ones for the movies. Although the Rogue One VD is terrific too 😊

I love "E Chu Ta" and i use it a lot instead of fck and i try to teach some swear words to my young kids, because swearing helps release tension/anger but its better to use other words for it and SW swears are a nice replacement.

thanx, it helped me to decide if this book is worh of purchasing. It is not as its not what i want. I want a visual dictionary / crossection book similar to the previous ones - i want to see all the weapons props in detail, there were several new ships parked or briefly seen - i want to see more pictures from all sides, crossection if it a bigger ship, i want a map of the locations. This is just a bunch of pictures from the series + few behind the scenes ones a some text to fill the blank space. The last good book fro SW i have is for Rogue One and im waiting on a similar for the Mando. But your review was very helpful to me and saved me around 50 eur for the books - many thanx.

Of the whole series, starting with Lady Trent, this is my favourite book. I read it before reading the others and then after reading the Lady Trent memoires, and the second time was definitely better because I knew all about the people and events alluded to. I loved the Epic as it unfolded, in its stylized and archaic style. I appreciated that Audrey and her sister were both presented as making valid choices and having valid interests. There was one relationship that I thought would follow the familiar trope, but then it didn't. But there was a major plot twist that I don't believe would be possible. I know the author is actually trained as an archaeologist, and I'm not, but I still don't accept this. Spoilers follow: I'm a potter, and I can't believe that it would be possible to create tablets to match other ancient tablets so closely that the counterfeits could fool an expert, or anyone really. The impossibility of exactly matching the clay and the firing technique would make it obvious that these last three tablets are not like the others, no matter how well Aaron reproduced the language and scribal handwriting. In spite of that, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

That’s a great comment 😊 it’s an excellent series, I’m always looking out for other books in the follow-on series. I love that alternate Victorian world, the level of thought and detail she puts into the different cultures (while still making it easy for the reader to know which one they’re based on in our world) is amazing!
