Hi Cindy. Can I ask which is the best recommended machine now for cutting metal clay
@cindypope61223 жыл бұрын
Tina I recommend the silhouette Curio even though Silhouette appears to have made a decision to discontinue it. I think the best alternatives to the Curio are the Portrait or the Cameo3.

Also would it be ok to buy a used curio? And can you still buy accessories?

I have a cameo and wanted to cut out a pendant in Silver Art Clay from Firestonegems website. Which clay do you recommend and is there a certain Blade I need to buy for the cameo or is the factory blade able to cut the clay? What types of metal silver clay do you think are best for a thick pendant for a necklace. I want to micro pave the pendant once it’s done being torched or in the Kiln so do I add my CZ stones after I torch or before? Didn’t known the process for adding CZ stones and if I have to set them each by hand after it’s cured do you know which tools I need for setting stones in this clay? Sorry for so many questions but I’m new at this 100%. And any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Thanks for responding so quickly! Do you know of a way of re-hydrating the engraved tile without losing the imprint. I am making lintels and need to drape them over a convex mold. I thought of steam or a misting machine.

Hi Cindy, I just watched your video on Engraving on Metal Clay. I know the video is over a year old, but I am new to the Curio, and can you do this on the Curio, and how do you do the metal clay to the point of engraving on it. I know you do alot of different classes and videos,, and i wish I could take the class your doing today. There is so much you can do and so much to learn. I do hope to be able to watch your videos soon.

Hi Kath, The curio is the best machine to use with metal clay. My best class is the Curio and ez960 class where I try to cover everything. It has a nice bonus on doing beads which are a very easy beginner project. www.craftcast.com/recordings/silhouette-curio-and-ez960-silver-metal-clay. If you are interested in metal clay I would recommend taking an intro to metal clay class with a local instructor.

Cindy, I am interested in purchasing the curio, would you recommend the Curio over the Cameo for Metal Clay work?
@julien61237 жыл бұрын
The Cameo cannot accept material that thick. It is best for cutting items that are not thicker than chipboard. The Curio can do all the cutting that a Cameo can do, plus it additionally accept items much thicker. The only downside to the Curio is that the base is not as wide as the Cameo and cannot accommodate the standard 12x12 sheet of paper. Look at the site Silhouetteamerica.com for more specifications on the thickness of material that can be used in both machines. Also someone on youtube has a video called Cameo vs Curio, what's the difference.

Arteira. I don't cut paper a lot but I would think the tiny cuts are very doable with a sharp blade. I do cut tiny plastic stencils with no problems.

Pam, the medium is metal clay and in this case it is Hadar Jacobson's One Fire Flex Clay. It can also be used to cut silver clay. See My explanation of metal clay below. I plan on making a video explaining what metal clay is and how we use it.
