I'll be doing this. Will attempt to use the bimini frame i have. I do want to add optional side and front clear vinyl curtains. Might not use them much but they're sure nice at times. This just for a 16ft fishing boat.

Does the cleaner do anything for Black Algae? This is a problem here. Typical mold/mildew cleaners don't even touch it. I know some use algaecides (some people use pool algaecide greatly diluted). I use diluted "wet and Forget" in a spray bottle with decent results. Spray it on my dodger, etc, and over time, the rain will wash the dead algae away. Just takes time (week or so if it rains). Always looking for other cleaners and methods to keep the algae away. Also, I made my dodger 12 years ago following your DVD series. I will be making a new one as the one I made needs to be redone. I will make a series of videos on my YT channel when I start making it next month.

Oh, boy Black Algae is very difficult to remove. I never tried pool algaecide, that may be better solution than what I typically do. Thanks for the recommendation! I recommend using a bleach solution for that type of issue. mix a cleaning solution of 1 cup bleach with 1/4 cup mild soap per gallon of water, spray the affected area, let it sit for 15 minutes, then scrub gently with a soft bristle brush and rinse thoroughly with clean water. The nice thing about Sattler or Sunbrella or Yachtmaster fabric is that they are very resistant to a mixed solution of bleach, so the color is not damaged. However, if your top was sewn with Polyester thread the bleach solution will take some of the life away of it. If Tenara Thread or Sailrite Lifetime Thread was used it is not affected by bleach or chemicals. Glad to hear you have a Dodger project coming up in the near future, happy sewing!!! I would love to get a link to your YT videos when done. email: [email protected]

@@SailriteDIY yea, bleach and other mold treatments don't touch black algae. someone suggested the pool algaecide, but I had wet and forget in the garage. it worked well, but slowly. apparently you must kill the organism first , but it is still black. need the rain and weather to wash it away. at least that is how it was explained to me. problem is it looks the same as mold! I BELIEVE wet and forget will take care of mold and mildew too, but not sure. But check out wet and forget (at big box stores) not expensive. I wasn't sure if there were better products to use. I may make a video of that too.

Can the 303 fabric guard be used on indoor fabric as well, like on a cream-colored. sofa? Your videos are always so informative. Exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you!
@SailriteDIY3 күн бұрын
Yes, I also use 303 Fabric Guard on my indoor cushions. I would not apply the product in the house but rather in the garage or outdoors and let it dry before it comes inside. Why? It does not smell good until it is dry.
@tjanecki3 күн бұрын
@SailriteDIY is there something better to protect the upholstery on my sofa?
@ohlson383 күн бұрын
@@tjanecki the smell is not long lasting. Just protect any floor from overspray, it can get slippery. there is scotchbright in a can that works well too. I usually just use the 303 myself. good product.

For anyone assembling their own Leatherwork, this video contradicts the instruction book when assembling the motor at 5:40. This video has you inserting the key into the slot, then pushing the cog wheel on over top. I STRUGGLED with this getting stuck all night last night, key being too tall and sanding several times not working. The instruction book says to put the wheel on, THEN insert the key I to the lined up slots. Harder to fit at first if the key needs sanding, BUT you won't get your wheel stuck 3/4 of the way on and unable to pull it off like I have.

You mention changing the bobbin to a more appropriate bobbin for the thread….are there different sized bobbins for different threads?
@SailriteDIY6 күн бұрын
You want the bottom bobbin thread to match the upper thread. When sewing light weight fabric it is important to use a light weight thread in upper needle thread and lower bobbin thread.
@carolbrown55166 күн бұрын

Quick question on both my Crownline and Formula boats the biminis are 2 pieces, a port and starboard and not 3 sections. Do you have any plans for this? I personally think it looks cleaner and 1 less seam and no seams crossing against direction of travel.
@SailriteDIY6 күн бұрын
That can be done if the radius of the tubing frame at the corners is gradual and not too tight of a radius. You will notice that bimini tops with a seam running from bow to stern instead of starboard to port have sewn in pleats/darts along the tubing bows at the curved sides. These pleats/darts create the shape for the top to fit over the frame nicely. If the tubing curve is aggressive at the corners that pleat must go deeper into the top almost to the center position of the top. If the tubing curve is gradual a small pleat will suffice. So... it mostly depends on how the tubing frame is formed or bent on whether or not a top can be made with a seam from bow to stern instead of port to starboard. Since frames vary in shape we at Sailrite decided not to show how to make the top with a seam to bow to stern, because if the pleat/dart has to go deep (almost to the center of the top) you might as well make seams going from port to starboard along the bows instead. In the interest of all types of frames we opted to show the method that works for all of them.

I need to glue 2 pieces of clear marine vinyl together so it fits the span of my screened in porch. 1) Do I need to scuff/sand the surfaces prior to gluing, like mentioned in other videos? 2) I don’t have HH 66 remover (at the moment). Is there an alternative to remove excess glue? Or can I go back and remove it once the HH 66 remover is dried?
