Ok ,I saw that you had four cords but when you flipped the end with the gathering knot you had six cords. Where did the extra two cords that you were making the square knots come from?

I'm making one now, and have no idea how many pieces I will need either. I am doing a slightly different pattern though. But wanted to get a general idea of what to do. You were misled, the cord is fragile. I weaved it according to your tutorial, but after 3 walks with the dog, the leash was all stretched out and it was impossible to walk with it anymore, I threw it away.
