Great question, here's what my St Andrews friend said- "Well, firstly, I think Edinburgh is a really special place to live and it’s weirdly similar to st Andrew’s (though a lot more to do hehe). It’s been really incredible getting to know a new beautiful city! I think with regards to the actual transfer, I did find it a bit tough last year just because clinical years are structured very differently to preclinical years and also integrating into a new cohort does come with its challenges. In terms of a curriculum, the Edinburgh curriculum is a lot more self directed - I think I’ve learnt that importance of external resources like passmedicine, quesmed, geeky medics etc. however I think though it’s a lot less prescriptive than St Andrews, it’s something that you can definitely adjust to and the hospital experience is great. Socially, my regret is not joining a sports club sooner because it’s a great way to meet people! But also i would say that though Y4 was a bit difficult initially (as it’s basically like freshers again) just remember that everyone going through the transition is in the same position! Also the year is so so big, there are plenty of opportunities to find your people" Hope that helps!!

Edinburgh teaches anatomy in years 1 and 2 at the old medical school building through prosection (already dissected specimens but you can handle them whilst filling out worksheets). The anatomy museum also at the old medical school is more of a study space that students are welcome to use. Anatomy is taught in the lab.

Edinburgh does a traditional pre clinical (years 1 and 2) and then clinical (years 4-6). However we also do PBL in years 1 and 2 once a week. Year 3 in case you're wondering is the compulsory BMedSci intercalation.

@oliverharris60 yeah it's very limited. Just a few GP placements in year 2. I wouldn't call it proper placements.

Nope never!

A full charge lasts around 2 days depending on usage. I'd say it's pretty good, reliable battery life. It's possible to use it whilst it's on charge, but it tends to heat up a bit.

No, the s pen does not need to be charged at all because it doesn't require a Bluetooth connection to work. Unlike the tab series s pens which have air actions, the s pen that comes with the book series does not have this feature and therefore requires no Bluetooth connection. It works just as simple stylus.

Pretty much the same as if it were in person except it's online! I understand it's probably trickier online but just remember that you're all in the same position and try to show off your team working skills as best as possible.

5th year of medical school. So my medical degree is 6 years long in total. After completion I will be a doctor. Residency comes after this when I begin to specialise.

@HSTVoffcial oh ok! So in Scotland you have 6 years of medicine, cause the Canadian system is 4 years plus 2 to 4 years after for residency, I'm actually thinking about moving to Scotland or Ireland so...., thanks for your information

@fionaquinn8777 In the UK, medicine is an undergraduate degree that you go straight into after high school. Edinburgh university has a 6 year programme because it gives you 2 degrees at the end- BMedSci (hons) + MBChB. Most universities in the UK do a 5 year programme for MBChB.

@Booksxmegs I see i see, fair enough. This is quite easy to carry around. It's quite thin and not too heavy. Fits in a backpack easily. Plus you don't need to carry around an additional iPad or something since it is a all in one😃

Great point and yes you're right the RAM on the tab is different to our phones and PCs. There are certainly uses for it such as gaming as you mentioned. I think for me personally I wouldn't be investing in a tab for heavy duty tasks such as gaming or video editing since I have devices better suited!

This is the Galaxy book 4 360 (not the pro version!). I'd say this one is absolutely fine for studying, the pro is better for heavier tasks like video editing/photo rendering etc.

It is quite annoying, however I just can't bring myself to invest in Apple!😆 There are still a few cross platform apps like Notion which I'm using nowadays which are cross platform. Samaung notes still syncs across my tab and phone so I've limited my usage mostly for to do lists/organisation. So overall it's not too bad, but yes it could be so much better if introduced on windows again:/

Pretty good still actually. I can get through 2x 1hr video calls + studying in a full day of uni. I usually charge overnight, but some days don't need to charge at all if it's not in heavy usage.

Interesting scenario😅 I am unfortunately not an expert on admissions esspecially as it varies case by case. I'd recomend emailing Edinburgh university, they will be able to advise better- [email protected]

I'm sorry to hear that, they normally do get back to you, perhaps just very busy since it's admissions season:/ From my existing knowledge I know that they want 5As at higher and missing subjects can be made up in S6. The resit may pose a complication though since they clearly say on their website that grades must be acquired on first attempt unless there is evidenced exceptional circumstances. I would advise you to speak with your school, perhaps a guidance/career advisor who may be able to help better than me!😅 Best of luck, hope it all works out!

2 main reasons- 1) Course is good, I actually like the pre clinical and then clinical approach. I wanted to do an intercalated year anyway so was fine with it being compulsory. Also just overall good career prospects/networking opportunities with being in Edinburgh. 2) Staying home was quite important for me. 6 years is a long degree so needed to make sure I had a good support system around!😁
