Vincebus Eruptum had some of the most insane, off-kilter guitar overdubbing that would have made Les Paul himself flip! Especially the last track on the album---that first song you were playing---the end of which sounds like an all-out sonic blitzkrieg of guitars swooping down from all directions!

To me, they're basically a different band on every album (maybe only the second album being closest to the first). They went through about a decade worth of changes in only 4 short years! From what I understand, the band REALLY broke up in 1969 and Petersen was just keeping the Blue Cheer name and trying to find new musicians to fulfill his Philips contract. But that band in 1971 was COMPLETELY different from the band in 1968!

@impalaman9707 yeah but that's the beauty of it. That's why I love their album so much because after a couple of albums they are willing to take some risks and go into some different styles of music and I think Dickie Peterson handles it well because I love every album.

@impalaman9707 I know but those albums are still awesome. I just listened to every blue cheer album during the summer when I was doing my walking. I never heard a bad note. And then after each guitar player would leave the band I pulled up all the solo efforts that all his guitar players did and they are also incredible especially that first lead guitar player. His solo albums are some great early dinosaur metal. Hey if you like Stoner metal like blue cheer you should check out a band called wolfmother. I just got done listening to all their albums and they are incredible.

My brother came home with this album and my mother hated it and we could only listen to it in the basement. We wore it out. Got the next one and just called it on off on off on off. If you had it you would understand. I became a drummer after that and still am fifty years later.

"OHHH HELL YES"!!! I definitely remember this killer band from my younger days as a friend of mine when I was only about 13-14 years old turned me on to this album, and I also remember hearing "Summer Time Blues" on FM rock radio as well!!! In fact, I bought this album around the mid to late 70's, and we still have it!!! But the only problem is I don't have a turntable with my current killer stereo, but I have used my KZbin music and a chord to my stereo and have still listened to it at times!!! Ernie Wilber 🤘👹🤘✌️

I like movies. by Mr. Bond, When there is war and internal conflicts, presidents do not travel abroad or publicly because they could be the target of an attack or coup d'état. To lose power, in this world with an enemy everywhere you only have to displace from one place to another so that the opposition comes in and destroys everything and put you in they custody. christ is loves and set you free

In the last 49 years I've heard many people describe Symphonic Slam / Timo Laine and I must say I enjoyed your 'review' the most. You DEFINITELY got the message. You understood completely the intention of Timo's music. You referred to the band as Prog Rock-Hard Rock. I can live with that description. I always hated that Slam was labelled as Progressive Rock. The very first incarnation of the band (before record deal) was more progressive than the second version that recorded the album on A&M. The first band had a 'Chamberlin', which was what the Mellotron design was stolen from. That one instrument gave the band the 'symphonic' sound. It was also before Timo acquired his polyphonic guitar synth, he played a beast called a Guitorgan. The original keyboard player also was a songwriter that wrote more of the 'symphonic' songs, Timo's songs were more varied and 'edgier'. Timo had been a veteran of the Southern California music scene since the early 60's and had seen it all. And unfortunately experienced how hard it was to keep a band together, he realized the only person he could always count on was himself. You mentioned that Timo started a band called the Space Rangers, that's not exactly correct. He was an original member of "Neil Merryweather - Space Rangers'. He was the lead guitarist and co-songwriter with Neil. After recording their fist album, Timo and the keyboardist quit, due to not being paid. Timo took the music he had written with him. He was not given credit on the album, the guitarist who replaced him for touring was credited as the guitarist. You are so right when you said that the idea of Slam was to be able to create the biggest sound with as few players as possible. Unfortunately the original keyboard player, drummer, and bass player quit before the first album (taking his songs with him). If technology was a bit more advanced back then, Timo would've been a one man band. I always described the second version of Slam as a ROCK BAND! One that had 'progressive' songs, hard rock songs, funky songs, jazzy songs, ballads, etc. Some people (such as yourself) got that. Others criticized the band because not all the songs were progressive. I was wondering throughout your review how long you had been a fan, until you mentioned that you heard the World Premiere of the album on CHUM-FM, when they played the entire album on the day it was released, they had never done that before. CHUM was a great supporter of the band, and it was mainly based on their airplay that the album nearly went gold. I must correct a few facts you gave. The album was released on Sept 08, 1976, not Dec 22nd. Dec 22, 1976 was the date of the band's first performance. Slam's first performance was doing a sold-out, solo concert at Toronto's premier concert hall, Massey Hall. The opening 'act' was a 30 minute concert video by 'The Tubes'. Also, although Timo is an artist/painter, he didn't do the artwork on the first album, all the rest of the albums he did. The first album cover was a painting by the artist Mati Klarwein. He did a lot of album covers, for artists such as Miles Davis, Greg Allman, etc., but he was most known for his Santana Abraxas album cover. Again I say, I completely enjoyed watching you dig the album, and also liked the website. To be completely honest, I created the website. I was also the band's first roadie/sound and lightman, and later became the Tour Manager. I enjoyed this review so much I'm going to send a link to Timo.

Thats so cool, thank you for the correct bit of info too. This album I bought a few years ago, I have heard them on the radio back in the days here on the West Coast of Canada, it was one of those bands I did not know who they were back then until I bought this album and wow I remember all of this! My family was always into music, my mom and stepdad both sang, crooner and opera, my two older sisters listened to the radio in the 60s 70s 80s, so I was surrounded by music, I began playing my mom's radio when I was 8. There was a lot of stuff I liked and did not know who they were until later. Yes, I remember hearing the entirety of this album on the radio, whether it was CHUM, CFOX, or CFMI, CFRO, I don't know. Must have been CHUM if any other station played it. And for AM radio we had CKLG73 and 14 CFUN. Koszonom, meaning thank you in Hungarian.
