She spoke with such admiration of Samuel Barber and having known him in his early student days. My own teacher, Eleanor Steber, commissioned Barber’s Knoxville Summer and sang in his opera at the Met. Special memories of great artists who revealed the transcendence of beauty.

What a wonderful thing to come across. As a member of the Maryland Chorus, I sang in this concert in Moscow on July 4, 1988. I'm sad the video isn't posted; though, because it was made with Soviet equipment, the quality was poor. Still, a good memory, and I'm glad others can share it.

You can tell this is a pianist from the late 20th century. Separate voices are equalized so that everything has the same volume and texture. There is no differentiation between solo and accompanying voices. Relentless mono-texture. Like a piece of machinery.

I love machinery. Especially well-oiled machinery that does nothing spectacular - just works.

Couperin idiomatically wrote for the harpsichord. Knowing that, such virtuosos as Marcelle Meyer Perfectly understood thazt the point was not to imitate a harpsichord by a iano - a hopeless idea, but to recreate this literature for the piano/ The success is more than obvious.

Thank you, Mr. Nyman, for this composition. this is a poignant blend of sorrow and hope, evoking both tears and a quiet sense of optimism. I feel immense gratitude for the privilege of being able to experience such music in my lifetime. It’s a gift that touches the soul and stays with me forever.

I saw this movie just because Michael Nyman had composed the score. Not only was I especially pleased with the music, the film itself happily surprised me for having such an interesting story, theme, acting, design, etc. Nice touch to see Ernest Borgnine and, of all people, Gore Vidal.
