Although I love the Byrds and their first two albums, it's what they did later that I find really inspirational: "Fifth dimension", "Younger than yesterday" and "The notorious Byrd Brothers", when they experimented with Indian music, electronics, dipped their toe into Country, and paved the way for the most forward-thinking music of the 20th century. Then came "Sweetheart of the rodeo" (which is a great album) and a new chapter in their story. But that triplets of albums remains my absolute favourite and as equal as anything their celebrated peers created...

As a student at UCLA, I saw them twice - at Ciros on the Strip, and as an opening act for the Doors at Whiskey a-Go-Go. And both times it was really "up close." During a period when the Beach Boys, Stones, and Beatles were becoming increasingly successful, it was the Byrds whose music blared thru our dorm halls and got us thru mid-terms and final exams. Sixty years later, they're still the best. Performing original songs by Gene Clark, and covering Bob Dylan songs, their harmonies and electric guitars all make me lament a time gone by.

Very serious time concerning music. At this time I was also on a Jimy Hendrix concert in Switzerland. We where all around 16 and music was sort of existential important. I went to all concerts and my father was not allowed to use the radio when this music was on air. Only me 🤭

Great classic songs. Bring back many fond memories of good times, good friends, much more carefree times than now. And we got along very well without cell phones and computers. 😀 RIP David MacCallum, Gene Clarke, Mike Clark, Clarence White and David Crosby. There were two other short lived members of the Byrds that also passed away.

RIP to David Crosby and David McCallum, two remarkable people with amazing talent and class who entertained us for nearly seven decades. Those of us in our teens in the mid-sixties will remember the stellar performances of these two, McCallum amazing “hot” actor in The Man From U.N.C.L.E and Crosby contributing silky smooth harmonies in The Byrds, equally “hot”, with hits like Turn! Turn! Turn!, Mr Tambourine Man and Eight Miles High. In recent years, both were still were equally popular, Ducky in NCIS and in Crosby in CSN and solo performances. Interestingly, McCallum passed away six months after Crosby in 2023. RIP. Thanks for the great memories!

Yes! Enjoyed your comments. My wife and I watched the new Man from UNCLE last night. The new Russian Illya Kuryakin I thought was excellent, not as good David McCallum. Overall, I thought the 2015 movie was good. I had a different opinion of Armie Hammer who played McCallums part after reading Wikipedia. He’s a strange guy in real life in constant trouble from allegations of abuse, mental & sexual. Reading McCallums he was a decent person off screen as well as on screen. Highly respected.
