Felt good to see log(1/epsilon) term at 29:34 Ah much better than our earlier case of 1 / epsilon

Eh too theoretical, I was happy just knowing that strongly convex functions can be optimized easily as compared to just complex functions, as intuition shared by the prof in earlier classes

Speaking as a graduate of Columbia University in New York City, I can say that you have a fine curriculum and many courses that are state of the art. Very good explanation of NMR shielding in this lecture. Courses/Lectures from NPTEL are an important part of my continuing education and research. Regards, Sam

At 27:14, coming out of the bracket, you missed multiplying by L/2 Hence it should be f(x_k) - (dell f_xk) ^2 / 2L

ah someone in class corrected this at 28:13

Eh, why do we need to analysze the KKT conditions for an SVM classifier, like we already went over the dual of an SVM a few lectures back That was intuitive and fun, this does not 😭 Or maybe I'm just to tired to comprehend stuff

Truly fortunate to get this

I'm so happy I could independently arrive at the dual of SVM derivation damn I'm proud

15:43 so we simplified by problem by 1. obtaining an qualify constraint which was not available before 2. simplify the inequality constraint from Ax - b <= 0 to lambda >= 0

4:15 damn the class strenght has halved after just 10lectures Suprised to say even we have a similar temperament lol Also is it the bicep guy, thanks for not disappearing, kinda motivates me to watch more lectures

Alright, I love the fact that for unconstrainted optimization we just have to set the gradients to zero, which is basically what we did back in 12th grade Amazing

Feeling a lot less motivated to complete this course, a bit too heavy and I am short on time as well Barely have 10days before I start with my internship, so I'll be lot less excited to learn stuff from NPTEL

the initial 10mins interaction with the class sets the tone for the entire semester We had profs who would straight up showcase that they were not interested in the class, and we would not be able to engage him/her throughout the sem Some were super engaging, and this was visible through the first 10mins of the semester itself I loved these type of classes, wherein the prof was more excited to show undergrads on how this teeny tiny subject has had multiple breakthroughs
