Indeed the last 3 seasons took quite distinct turns and undertones. While I hated Davis Bloom/Doomsday as a malevolent character of this season, I think, the development and introduction of Tess Mercer, instead of the getting boring Lex-character, was genius in theory and portrayal: Cassidy Freeman as an ambivalent mixture of good and bad goals and ways to get there plus the somewhat closer interaction between Tess and Clark, gave a whole new octave to the antagonist status while bringing back revived and cloned versions of Lex was annoying and ridiculous, just like in Lois&Clark, And yes: developing Lana from the whiny permanent victim to a selfmade tough girl - it doesn't work out here, as Kristin Kreuk is too fragile, after all. Something like this works with "full size" girls like Cassidy and Erica, but not for a petite elf like Kristin. Lana needed another turn, at least 2 seasons earlier.

For me the show died when Arthur took peters powers.. First and second season were both good, theres 1 downside to season 2, being the reset the characters seem to have. Season 4 had so much potential with the characters introduced but season 3 just didnt meet the prerequisite events to set up properly for season 4.

lost is by far my far my favourite show. Interestingly, a lot of people arent aware of the 11 minute "ending" which was only included in the box set release. whenever i hear someone is watching it for the first time i make sure to send them the youtube link because it answers so many questions. A lot of people complain about the ending but i think it's great because you can put your own spin and biases and beliefs into it.

I mostly agree with your rankings, with two exceptions. I don't dislike season 6 as much as most people, so I put it above season 8, so season 8 is my second least favorite, just above the spinoff. The other exception, is that I move Season 1 to the number 1 spot, and everything else just shifts down one. The reason I ranked it higher, is because that season had such a raw and cinematic feel to it. This is no surprise, since Stephen Hopkins directed many of the episodes (including the first one) and he is a movie director mainly. Despite my feelings about how annoying Kim is, her subplot did seem relevant (well, except when she goes off to find that kid that helped her during the kidnapping). And it had one of the best Jack Bauer kill scenes, when Jack thinks Kim is dead and he goes after Victor Drazen, two-fisting his guns and just running him down and emptying the magazines. It was epic. Other than those two differences, I mostly agree with your ranking.

Easily my least favorite 24 season. In fact, I got so bored with it, I never watched past episode 4, so I haven't even seen the ending. I remember almost nothing about what I did see. I guess at some point, just for the sense of completeness, I need to watch it through just so I know what happened. But I didn't care about really any of the new characters, and it just didn't seem like the same show. I don't even own the DVD of this season, like I do all the others.

Disney--please God no...just no. As much as I would love a revival with Jack's closing story, I had not thought about the fact that Disney would be in control of it. Maybe we fans should just let it go, because they would botch it up so badly. Anyway, I really love this season, I think the 12 episode format, while sort of breaking the whole gimmick of the show, actually works to its advantage, because there are no stupid subplots that get in the way. It really feels lean and mean. It's also eerie how (like in previous seasons) the show seems to predict something that happens in real life, namely the prospect and problems around a President who is suffering cognitive decline. That seemed far fetched at the time, but now...not so much.
@chuckpoore2 ай бұрын
There were some good things in the season, like the NY setting, and the completely different angle of the threat being mainly against a visiting dignitary. But overall, I agree that most of the new CTU characters were uninteresting, and I didn't like the way they looked down on Chloe. I have always considered this my least favorite season other than the later spinoff. I hardly ever re-watch this one.
@chuckpoore2 ай бұрын
This one has always been one of my favorites. I love the change to DC, and working through the FBI. I love the Renee Walker character as well as President Taylor. It's also interesting, that later on there were two big Hollywood films depicting the takeover of the White House, but 24 did it first, and in my opinion, did it better. That part of the season was my favorite part. You mentioned that the show became more liberal at this time. But I would look at this a different way. I think it wasn't so much as it being politically liberal, as much as presaging the real-life realignment that is still happening between the major parties, where on many big issues (like foreign wars/entanglement, free trade, free speech and civil liberties) the parties have kind of switched as to which side they're on. I think 24 predicted that with President Taylor, being a Republican, but standing up for many things that years ago would be considered Democratic issues (except the foreign war issue, Taylor was still very Bush-Cheney-Neo-Con on this).
@chuckpoore2 ай бұрын
I don't know, I guess I had become such a fan of the show by this time I was more forgiving. I have never felt the hate for this season that most other people do. I do recognize the re-used plot points, but to me that's sort of the 24 formula (mole in CTU, conspiracy in government, etc.) I agree that Wayne Palmer was not a very good president, but in many ways that's true to life. We've had some very incompetent presidents, and looking back, sometimes what happens in 24 is eerily close to some things that later happened in the real world. Anyway, I don't think this was 24's best season, but neither it's worst. It's just kind of in the middle.

The show definitely hit its peak during this season. The first time I watched it, when it actually broadcast, I was afraid that the subplot with the First Lady was going to be one of those annoying distractions that I hated. But boy was I wrong. Her subplot was central to the overall story, and Jean Smart's performance was Emmy-worthy, she really showed her acting chops. She was one of my favorite characters in this season, which is saying a lot. If I had one complaint, it would be that the plot point of the hostage crisis in the airport in the first act of the season, as cover for the terrorists getting their hands on the nerve gas, seemed a bit of a stretch. In real life, I can't help but think there was a more efficient way for them to get the nerve gas, than creating a hostage crisis where the whole world is looking at them. It's well done, and they try to weave it in to the conspiracy, but when you give it too much thought, it really doesn't work. Love this season though.
@chuckpoore2 ай бұрын
I definitely agree that all the new characters changed the flavor of the show, but in a good way. I loved the additions of Bill Buchanan, Curtis Manning, Charles Logan and James Heller. I also believed the romance between Jack and Audrey. Despite how much the show stated that Jack loved his first wife, Terri, I never really saw any chemistry between the actors. But I do see real chemistry with Audrey. I just liked her better than Terri. My only criticism of this season, is the stupid subplot with the CTU director's daughter (can't remember her name). That distraction of constantly having the clinic call her and say "you daughter's acting up again," just got real old real quick. Like I did with Kim's scenes in Season 2, I just skip those scenes, and it's much better for it.
@chuckpoore2 ай бұрын
I agree that Kim's scenes were not as bad or distracting here as in Season 2, because she actually has something to do relevant to the plot. But still, her personality is so freaking annoying, she's so stubborn and insufferable. I'm so glad that in later seasons, they just let her show up as a guest for a few episodes and then she's gone. Also, this season shows why you never let a married couple, or even people in a serious relationship, work in the same office, much less when one is the boss and one is second in command. This would never be allowed in real life, even in the corporate world, much less in a military-style government agency. That being said, I really do love this season overall.
@chuckpoore2 ай бұрын
Your comments about the Kim Bauer "storyline" (if you can call it that), are spot on. That part is really the low point of the whole series. I read somewhere that the producers really liked the actress, Elisha Cuthbert, and were just trying to find a way to keep her in the show. But even Elisha admits it didn't work, as you said yourself, other than Jack constantly wondering where she was, her "perils of Kim" plotline had nothing to do with the main storyline of the show. That being said, this season is really my favorite season in every other way. When I watch the DVD's, I just skip all the Kim Bauer scenes, and then it's really more like "19" instead of "24", but that really makes it better. If someone could do a super-edit and edit out all the Kim Bauer scenes, it would make a super tight thriller.

Great review. I think its the worst season of x-files. Horrible scripts for almost all episodes. The dialogue is way below average. Its almost comedic whilst trying to be super serious. Too much religious talk on top of all that. This was the first season i stopped watching some of the episodes. Even without Mulder the cast would have been able to provide a good show. But the script and dialogue writers killed it. Then there is too much religious talk. Skinner which i love has some of the stupiest lines in the whole series. His character is completely wasted. In all the other seasons i longed for the mythology episodes, in this season it became a joke. Nah.. anyways i rewatched it 3 times over the last 23 years and i stop trying to love this season. I really tried it but its horrible.

I saw the first Star Wars in the theater in 1977, so my take will vary from a fair portion of the fan base due to being a generation older. Way back in 1980, when Luke Confronts Obi Wan's force ghost about his father, Obi Wan resorts to what he said is true "from a certain point of view"and I knew that the Jedi story would be far from black and white back then. Even Lucas retconed himself but much of the original footage has been taken from history. Even he didn't have a clear vision of where he was going or doing back then and often winged it. So I really don't see how Disney politicized the show as claimed. The original series had a lot of Fascist/Communist themes in regards to the Empire. I lived the Cold War and grew up with it. See the originals before the prequel series came out and you'll see what I mean. The Acolyte really should have been 12 episodes and of at least 50 minutes each to further develop the story and close holes. Episodes three and four could have been combined, showing two different views of events. At least the finale was really cool. Star Wars has never had much of a script to begin with. It was a B-rate story dressed up with unseen and new types of special effects to give it that WOW factor. Further on in the series depends more upon special effects to carry it. As to plot lines, its often someone behaving like a petulant child or teenager with a temper tantrum with the characters inflicted with airheadedness with each movie. This really takes off with the prequel series. All in all, I give the Acolyte a 7 out of 10. The acting in much of Obi-Wan was awful and then some, which made it worse in my opinion. The thing that bugs me the most is that the Makeup department makes Lee Jung-Jae look like a driver's license picture from the beginning. If it had started with him looking as he really is and then went into being scraggly at the end of the series, it would have had far more impact. I see that often Star Wars under whatever umbrella often has Asian men looking like driver's license pictures.

@@nukritik2933 I would have liked to see more character development. The ending didn't surprise me at all. Yoda knew all along and was arrogant in thinking that the order would never fall or he was a total airhead unable to connect things together. The prequel trilogy bugs me because where things are headed is so obvious to everyone but the Jedi. When the starlight station fell, and the Jedi closed up all their temples is when they created their downfall. They switched from an order based on being for the people to keeping their own power and fearing to lose it. All of this is cannon. It's been interesting to see how Star Wars evolved for nearly 50 years.
