She just gives me chills every darn time I hear her sing this tune. She's a fabulous talent.

Certainly I prefer the original version of the tune, with which Kerry is amazing, as she is with the rock version. However, now that she is fully matured, offering this unique adaptation of DG is interesting and pleasing to me. She can do no wrong in a performance.

As much as I am obsessed with Laura, her voice and acting choices, I can’t get used to Sarah. I saw her 3 times live and countless times on KZbin and her Glinda is simply not convincing. Vocally is ok, just alright, there were tens of better vocalists, but her Glinda is simply very unlikable and I can’t get any emotional connection with her acting. She isn’t just naturally funny, as Glinda should be. I think the only great acting part is Thank Goodness, where is shows more dramatic acting and i was impressed with that. But her comedy feeling is not there at all.
@TimeToBlowYourMind7 күн бұрын
I can see where you’re coming from, but I’d have to disagree. I don’t think she’s the strongest singer in this role, but for me, her comedy and characterisation won be over - but admittedly, it did take me a few times watching the tour live to warm to her.

I really didn’t enjoy Laura’s most recent tour lead Elphaba. Tour really seemed to speed up the Defying Gravity finale and rob Laura of her emotive and poignant message in the song. Felt like she was just going through the motions for most of the run. I saw Laura as standby to Nikki Bailey in London and then again on opening night after Covid. She blew the roof off of the Apollo Victoria. I just couldnt get excited about her tour Elphaba or this tour production in general.

some highlight moments from this performance : 0:41 little melody change on "however they try" 1:07 the way her tone sounds and the emphasis on "DEAD or bleeding" 2:05 the slide up to the Eb5 whewww!! 2:42 she took the amazing option up melody here which I believe was originated by Eden Espinosa?? (could be wrong) 2:51 I believe she's the only Elphaba that sings the "so be it!" I love it, very melodic 3:09 gorgeous E5 opt up.. 3:20 another slide but up to an E5, wow. Perfect ending. All of her manchester No Good Deed's have been her best but this one is AMAZING.

As beautiful as each individual performer is, I fear this performance has lost the essence of the original orchestrations… I’m not someone who thinks everything should be performed as written (controversial statement in itself), but I believe that music should be respected but can evolve and develop. Riffs etc should be allowed and encouraged where they build upon the emotion of the initial written music and develop character feelings and intentions further. Art is and always will be a continuous development of work, especially when it’s on display to the public 8 times a week. With the movie release being performed in a lower key (no disrespect to anyone, it sounds fantastic for the movie), I fear its impact on the original production. This version that has an increased tempo doesn’t give availability for the music to breathe as opposed to the original orchestrations. That then results in the performers providing an on-par performance (which we all know is not the extent of what the talents can produce) plus additional riffs which stem from previous performances. I hold space to both of those things (pun intended and necessary), but it’s concerning that this is taking place without oversight for the overall feel of the piece of theatrical beauty that Wicked is. Final performance or not, it doesn’t sit comfortably with me.

It’s not that deep imo. The original Broadway cast album exists for a reason. I personally love seeing different interpretations and reinventions of this perfect score.
