how to say mac is shitty os without say mac is shitty os - its need app to fix scroll wheel on your cheap mouse that works everywhere else
@DrewTalksTech2 ай бұрын
That’s not at all what it means. It merely means that Mac sells mostly laptops and touch mice, and tailors the software to scroll naturally with those. It would be nice if they included an option, but there’s nothing wrong with serving your clients.

its just apple being hostile to users that are not using 100% apple products...
@DrewTalksTech15 күн бұрын
@@kfj795 No, that's a bit dramatic. It's a company with a small percentage of market share designing the product to suit the majority of their userbase. It's not like scrolling doesn't function with a regular/non-apple mouse - it's just offputting for someone who's used to how Windows scrolls. This is entirely a "me" problem where I don't want to change my muscle memory, not necessarily an Apple problem.

We have mixed systems environment at work and "just works" certainly cannot be applied to the Macs (especially the M silicon Macbook Pros). It's been an eye-opening experience. The ecosystem thing has some niche features but the reality is you have more option's and interoperability across other brands. If want too nit pick single brands then Samsung is and example with a broader ecosystem with far more devices and functionality. But it's simply not necessary for a single brand. Ie Moto Edge or Samsung S etc is able to interact in ways with windows beyond Apple while also serving as a desktop system to a stand alone display of tv if one needs it. The diversity out the is great, to dive into a single limiting brand when so many others cater to ones special needs or can combine to do more from a single product doesn't make sense.
@DrewTalksTech4 ай бұрын
True to an extent, but you're really comparing apples and oranges there. What you're describing isn't what my channel is focused on. Work environments are very different from the home consumer experience. Most of the mentioned interoperability between brands is certainly there and there's a lot of it, but it's all largely on paper and in practicality is inconsistent at best, and we can say that even if we ignore the features that nobody uses in a home environment like Samsung's (very interesting) desktop-style expansion of their phone OS. I checked that out a couple times and it's neat, but ultimately not that useful outside niche and probably work-related purposes. Any feature on your mind will work better inside a curated and tightly managed work environment, which is almost the same as being within an ecosystem because it's controlled and tested beyond the capability of an average user. Effectively, you're arguing the same old take of "more capability" when those capabilities are still jankier and requires a lot more fuss. You're still not going to have a more reliable experience with less messing around in a home setting than you'll find with Apple.
@Spoonfed784 ай бұрын
@@DrewTalksTech I'm not sure that a work environment impacts the stability of the OS/machine itself. If Finder and Mai as just two examples l are doing dumb things locally then thats on Apple, as you've mentioned it's completely curated environment to a hardware and software level, yet doesn't achieve what a bag of software and hardware can. That's not good. . If one likes doing limited things the way Apple says it's done and only done, maybe that's for some. But being able to more how one wants to do it and work is for most, especially when saving money. The Dex example is specific use cases sure but when on ReadyFor (moto Dex) I can edit up a 4k video on the 4k tv with keyboard and mouse needing only the phone it's not just business case. All the benchmarks that get put out aren't used. People will buy an M4 iPad at $$s to watch Netflix 🤦♂️. Sure it's their choice but such a waste of hardware (iOS example limitation )

This is a great summary of things I have been thinking about for a while. Great video, I subbed!
@DrewTalksTech4 ай бұрын
I appreciate your comment! We all get to this point eventually in the modern age - there’s just too much happening to be able to hold onto everything. These concepts have really helped me.
@maxd17444 ай бұрын
Exactly. What I'm thinking now is that there is not necessarily too much happening, but we expose ourselves to too much information. So, maybe a combination of "selective memory" (what you were talking about in the video), and reduced exposure to information to improve our "performance" in daily life would be best. Thus, a focus on fine tuning acquired knowledge instead of overwhelming ourselves with new knowledge. @DrewTalksTech

Very wise words! That is something I began to touch on in a prior video about reducing the overwhelm from our smartphones. But adding to that - I’m barely on social media anymore and I avoid following most world news and things which bring me anxiety without having a direct impact on my life. There’s so much we can cut down on.

I appreciate that feedback a lot! My goal was to emphasize more basic features that don’t usually get much spotlight (pun intended) but can really make those little administrative tasks better than Windows natively. The funny thing is that while Preview is a daily tool for me, I don’t really do much with PDFs outside the office - I’d really love to be able to use a Mac at work for that purpose. But even in the rare case that I use PDFs at home (mostly for filing away vehicle maintenance invoices and tax-related documents), it’s a feature that really stood out to me.

Windows has tried to add some functionality with the app powertoys which is great, but I think more people would use and enjoy some of the features you just talked about if it was intergrater into the os but they just had to make it a separate app

Small correction to myself: technically, Windows does batch file renaming. But it's so basic that it's nearly useless. All it does is name every file the same and add a counter to it; there's no option to customize the counter type or put it at the start, replace only certain text, etc. It might as well not exist.

Whether or not an app quits when you close the window is up to developer implementation. Apps like Safari stay open when you close them, I assume just to keep it in memory so it launched quicker next time you want to open a browser window. But e.g. Reminders and Weather quit when the window is closed.
