I ate this on the Appalachian Trail and it didn't have flavor to me either. No "smokiness" either, and super expensive for the tiny portion.

Nice succinct review man hit all the points that real hikers care about. I have a plush 5lb free standing 2p tent for short pleasure trips and car camping, and a Zpacks hexamid for going UL on long distance or elevation. Been looking for something in the middle for 2-4 night trips where I'm solo, under 2lb but free standing and comfortable. Nemo Hornet might be the one. Also considering MSR Freelite and Big Agnes Tigerwall.

It always makes me chuckle when i see people complain about a 1.2KG weight for a tent in the comments. I have both the Enan, Akto (stronger version and more winter proof) and the soulo - all of which have their uses and applications. The point being is you dont mess around with the one thing that can literally save your life. You can have a tent that weights 6 or 700 gram's, but on multi day events when you have zero concept of weather coming your way, then why would you worry over something that weight less than a nalgene bottle of water. Its pointless. I'd say start doing leg day and get fitter and priortise your shelter over every other bit of kit you can take.

Hi folks, great video, very helpful! A quick Q: would you say one could "push" this bag beyond -4/-5C comfort which WM state it is? Can you dress up and use it comfortably at say -10C outside air temp. in a 4 season tent, like a Hilleberg? Cheers!
@Gearthirty
@Gearthirty 9 ай бұрын
You absolutely can. I've used this particular bag down to -10F (-23C) on a winter trip in the Wind Rivers. I was sleeping in down booties, insulated pants, and a lightweight down jacket. So, it totally depends what layers you "dress up" with, but it would be pretty easy to stretch the rating to -10C or colder.
@Western-Mountaineering
@Western-Mountaineering 5 ай бұрын
Great question. Our temperature ratings are based on extensive field research, and we are confident you'll stay cozy down to the rating. With a bag liner, an all-season sleeping pad/tent, a puffy jacket or a possible bag overfill you can definetely push this bag beyond it's WM rating.

Impressive to see you are walking in light running shoes. Why not real leather hiking boots?

Weight, apparently 100g weight saving on your feet compare to something like 500g in your backpack. And if you have a light backpack like around 10-13kg you really don't need sturdy hiking boots.

I currently have a Western Mountaineering Ultra lite 20° bag which I love, it's a quality build and definitely keeps me warm. However, once I'm totally enclosed inside the bag I feel claustrophobic. I've now been looking at the TerraLite because of its shape and roominess, it seems to have a much bigger girth than the other bags. What is your opinion of the roominess?
@LisaTheWanderingGeordie
@LisaTheWanderingGeordie 11 ай бұрын
ive just bought it and used it 4nights and its great, im short (5ft) and to be honest it was like a rectangle sleeping bag, ive the nemo disco and id say its more roomer than that but far lighter and less bulky

I think I have the previous model, because it makes my ancles hurt a lot and cuts my circulation. I've done everything to that boot and still does not fit right. Expensive and the worse purchase I've done in that department. The 3-piece construction is poorly done, given that in the ancle area, when you buckle up the lower piece (the yellow one), it puts pressure on the ancle and since that piece doesn't move while walking, the ancle kind of suffers there a lot (it's like rubbing against a hard edge). It's been a nightmare, hope that they have done something better with the new model.

Depends, of course, where you are using it. I've used this bag comfortably up to 50F/10C by unzipping the zipper and sticking an arm or leg out when I get too warm. For most mountainous regions, I would say a 20F/-6C rating is the sweet spot for 3-season use.
