This is not a good example. If you don't know the environment and the rules of it, it's ok to behave like a sheep. It's worse in situations when people have enough information to figure stuff on their own, but they follow the crowd.

Excellent presentation and slides, though somebody really should have coached the facilitator around microphone placing, which was incredibly distracting and made it difficult to listen to.

Overall, its a good idea as you can see everything and be able to analyse things

But there is confusion between whether Nick is talking about ordered systems (where the mechanical, factory methods hold true) and disordered systems which are non-linear where improvements are not consistent predictable upwards trajectories. (Where the gardening metaphor holds better) Also a sidenote. You can't solve wicked problems by getting to root causes. That's what makes the problems 'wicked'.
