Sviatoslav Richter with Leinsdorf closed this concerto forever.

Another Wirtschaftswunderland performance we heard since Karajan 50 or 60 years ago. Berlin Philharmonic is a rotten, dead institution. I can't bear Petrenkos's continuous, inappropriate smile. Well, excellent pianist, excellent orchestra. But completely dull performance. A pianist knowing Richter and Gilels performances of Brahm's 2nd should go into himself. But these greedy ones don't realize. I'm looking forward to the day they chase this mediocre time beater away. This Brahms 2 is a pure mess.

Actually, Richter with Leinsdorf are unsurpassed by anyone.

This is not an easy concerto to master and perhaps Mr. Trifonov whose talent is unquestionable has not yet found the right fit for this music and might never and it is fine by me. I agree with the comment concerning this underlaying nervousness energy that might be suitable in other works. Having grown up listening Gilels and Jochum, I am more conditioned to enjoy a bit more of a grandeur and majestic approach to the work.

A Daring and Thrilling performance of Brahms Second Piano Concerto. Trifinov acheives new heights during this artistic expression.

Too painful to watch him! Too exaggerated emotions prevent Trifonov to show more balanced performance. But he is an excellent pianist otherwise.

The debut raises some doubts, but once you enter into the vision that Trifonov presents, everything becomes clear. Well done, Trifonov, and well done to the orchestra. The 4th movement is fantastic!

Franz Liszt plays Brahms. Too fast, too self-referential. Wonderful orchestra, very bright piano. But it's not Brahms...

Fantastic conducting. Of course the pianism is extraordinary. The bench bouncing doesn’t make sound bigger. But he plays so well and probably can’t help being a genuine actor. Interesting to hear the interviews with Horowitz about the extraneous movement and just let their mechanism do its thing. But nobody can argue the conception and pianism is not good, as it is terrific. He is such a handsome guy it would be great to see him calm the extra stuff.
@musikguru110 күн бұрын
Sounds like he plays all the correct notes, but none of it makes sense. OVERWHELMING EMPTINESS. Was Brahms a psychopath? Trifonov seems to be one. And a clown at that too!

The Best Brahms concerto no 2 players are Really=Sviatoslav Richter with The Paris Orchestra from 1969 Richter the most monumental and Best structure for music! Grigory Sokolov his Brahms no 2 with Finnish Radio Symphony video from 1987 had the Best piano sound! Sokolov his rhythmic vitalness is unbeatable better than Hamelin or Zimerman or Fleisher or Arrau or Horowitz! Edwin Fischer from 1942 Fischer the big Genius!!
