To anyone offended by this I hope this helps you understand. Religion ruined my childhood and nearly ruined my life. My Christian parents thought they were doing the right thing by raising me in the church. And you know what lessons I internalized? I’m dirty. I’m worthless without religion. I’m deserving of punishment. Women should be treated as second class citizens. My sexuality is something to be oppressed (even being straight). Not only did I have my own neuroticism and self doubts to wrestle with, there was also an invisible person watching and judging my every thought and action. And even though our holy book is full of blatant contradictions, reconcile them all and don’t change your mind about it or else you’ll be punished forever. Convince everyone else to join this mind prison or else they’ll be punished forever too. Meanwhile don’t bother investing much in your own life, as the real important stuff happens after death anyway. It’s a recipe for mental illness and 35 years later I am still struggling with the decisions, investments, and patterns of thought imprinted to me since birth. So when I attend the Hunky Jesus contest and find myself surrounded by free people who can pierce the taboo and laugh at these things, it is healing. My own parents are so brainwashed they cannot understand me. And yet thousands of strangers with their own wounds will understand me better. No one was being hurt. No one was being attacked. People were enjoying the sun, laughing, and dressing up in silly costumes and being irreverent. Meanwhile look at this comment section or the hateful ideas you encounter in the pews and tell me which one you’d choose. If these things offend you - and they would have offended me too 20 years ago - you are in a mind prison. Not only does it hold you, it conditions you to defend the prison and attack anyone who tries to tear it down or simply ignores the invisible bars you have. Free your minds and discard hateful superstition. Your angry reaction to this event which hurts no one should be the red flag to yourself of your own conditioning.

I once had a hot mic moment from a public official at a city council meeting. It wasn't as cool as jack@$ but....... I had already made a small imprint on Denver with a couple of articles of mine printed in a local independent peridocal, so i technically was technically there as a member of the press (they even printed me a cute little laminate card for the occasion) and so when i spoke it was because i had a legitimate question on the topic at hand. When i got up and introduced myself and the organization i was with one of the council members mutterd under his breath "oh, YOU'RE that guy" with enough contempt lathered on to drown a dolphin. It was one of the greatest compliments i have ever recieved, especially as backhanded as it was. For evil to flourish good men must stand by and do nothing.
