Super cool! Are recording the sound with your phone camera or something else?

That's quite a few extra modules you put in there, I've been thinking of getting one of these 55's as an experimental and Atmospheric drone synth, but I wouldn't know what to slot into the bottom row. I've heard theses synths have electrical issues due to the rack case which puts me off a bit.
@trrstrlАй бұрын
I put mine together before they were offering complete 55's. It's made up of 2 cases, each with it's own power. Also have 4 other setups with the same cases. So far no problems.

How do the little silver switches feel? Are they acceptable? I ask because another video somewhat critisized them. I am quite interested in this little clone.
@trrstrl2 ай бұрын
They are definitely plastic. I don't know what to compare them to except those square sliders that some modules have. Don't know if they will ever have problems but work fine currently. Metal toggle switches would be more reassuring of course. Kind of wish they would have gone industrial strength on everything and just charged more. Nothing jumped out as I played it suggesting any problems though, so maybe they will last forever.

This is really cool! Are you using stock samples only for this or your own samples?
@trrstrl3 ай бұрын
Thank you! I used 1 stock sample and the rest my own. These were a mix of sounds recorded with the onboard mic and already recorded sounds that I sampled through the mix in connection. Next one I hope to also incorporate the granular part.

Great ambient work :-) How did you manage to have long lasting samples on this thing ? Was it only granular engine ?
@trrstrl3 ай бұрын
Thank you! Some of the samples were recorded at the lowest sample rate. Others were played at a lower pitch than originally sampled at. This extends time also since pitch and speed are connected. I keep forgetting about the granular engine. Hope to use it in an upcoming video.

How do you think this does for soundscapes? For example, just taking the thing with you outside and mixing in a bunch of environment sounds.

For me it works fine for that type of thing. Keep in mind that the sound quality isn't as good through the mic as through the mix in or usb in connections. Also you have limited sample time at the highest sample rate in stereo.

Hi there I’m tossing up getting a Taiga or a Labyrinth to go with my DFAM and Matriarch. How do you like the overall sound/wavefolding of Lab vs Taiga?
@trrstrl5 ай бұрын
I prefer the wavefolding of the Taiga. It has more options and with 3 oscillators, the potential for a bigger variety of textures. The labyrinth is a lot of fun and is capable of more than it appears initially. Both excellent synths and also very different. For wavefolding though, I like the Taiga more.

kIller bro. I'm thinking of getting one, and I already have a OpSix, Q Swarm, West pest and I wonder if this is giving anything different/more than those synths.
@trrstrl Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have read that the Taiga is a combination of the West Pest and East Beast but haven't played either to know if that's true. OpSix is a great synth but it's a different type of sound. I was drawn to the Taiga by the Pittsburgh Modular demos that hint at it's ability to create natural sounds. Also now that I have one, I like that it can do shortwave radio type stuff. Probably not what most will use it for. It's great for textures and experimental things.

@@trrstrl Can it do birds like the voltage research lab? kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJyVdWOJdrunj7c
@trrstrl Жыл бұрын
@@millenniummastering I spent a couple of hours trying to get that sound and couldn't nail it down. You can get bird like sounds, but they seem a little different than in the video. It would be nice to know how they patched the VRL to get a good starting point. If I ever get it figured out I will post a video to compare with. Thanks.
@millenniummastering Жыл бұрын
@@trrstrl Those bird sounds are insane. I have not heard that from a synth before. Really sounds like the vocal chambers of parrots etc. I was looking at the oscillators on the VRL and it might be the extra CVable functions. Asymmetry and ring modulation etc. Also those 2 low pass gates are probably involved. Those birdcalls were the sounds that really grabbed me as I wanted to put them into my next Liife - Lost Islands album. I am thinking of picking up the Taiga tomorrow and getting a Erica Matrix mixer so I have lots of crossmodulation on everything. Madness no doubt. I have a Erica Syntrx so I can do ring mod on that and see if it helps. I should just borrow my mates VRL to see tho.
@trrstrl Жыл бұрын
@@millenniummastering Yeah I kind of assumed those function generators on the VRL play a role in getting those bird sounds and also in creating self generating patches. Matrix mixer looks fun. Too bad the Syntrx mixer can't be used in the same way (I'm assuming).
