Stephen should know that the Geordie dialect is the oldest form of Anglo Saxon spoken in England. Surely he learned that at school?
@BRKS1999Ай бұрын
Quick lesson. Wor = Our Canny = quite. Aka canny good. Canny bad. Canny hungry etc however if you’re meaning it in a positive sense you can just say the word itself. “How are you” “I’m canny, you?” (I’m good, you)

Stephen Fry always has had a problem with the North-East. See the episode with Ross Noble and lovely Sarah Millican and the stories of "what goes on up there". Read Paperback and you'll see how he always attributed a geordie narrator to homophobic jokes. Nevertheless, he's a canny bloke and I'm not going to nob off to Bruges because of it.

Wor can mean "our," or "my". The most common use of "wor" in Newcastle is probably "wor lass", meaning my wife, or my girlfriend.

They were talking about a woman named Fearne Cotton and were asked if they know anything abouts Ferns (type of plant). The man who said "Fearne's what?" took Stephen's question as asking about something belonging to Fearne rather than the Fern plant.

"War" is pronounced like "vår", meaning "our(s)" in Norwegian. More evidence that Geordie is closer to the Scandinavian languages.
