Shouldn’t safety chains go to the frame, not the bumper?
@gregmacklem
@gregmacklem Ай бұрын
I checked the tire bar by Blue Ox and neither the chains or tow bar connections are on the frame. Obviously the bar itself connects to the frame. With my setup, the tow bar connection points are directly bolted to the frame horns. I have full confidence the jeep isn’t going anywhere it isn’t towed. :)
@gregmacklem

Also, those connection points are used for winching and are quite sturdy.

I tow directly off the D rings on my wrangler. I bought a bumper that was rated by manufacturer to tow from D rings. Now tow bar. Safety cables go from frame of Rv to frame of jeep

I might put some wheels under the battery box to make it a bit more portable (and stack the rest on top when moving), basically turning it into a wagon. Were I to build my own, I would probably go 48V for boosted efficiency and less need of thick wires. I am also looking to build my own system and have watched a great many videos and read schematics on how to do it proper.

OK, Greg. I've done a lot of small solar systems and I give advice to newbees on safety. I watched your video and I can say that you covered all the bases and did it well.. You used the proper breakers on your inverter and solar charge controller, you have shutoffs, you used the proper wire size for the current that will be drawn and you kept your wire Lengths short.. WELL done! I think you could have been a little neater and routed your wires better but that doesn't matter when the box is closed LOL! but you did a good job.. and set a good example.. see ya pal., from the grumpy old man

Nice build, I had the same thoughts for strain relief for the AC and the solar input. You could also have other batteries and inverters with larger capacity for power outages to run the fridge, etc. A 300 amp battery for home use only could be a nice addition later on.

Beware of Forest River/Rockwood/Flagstaff models. Mine had serious manufacturing defects which they admitted to, towed the camper back to the factory, then proceeded to return it to me severely damaged. They've agreed to fix the easy, cheap stuff but not the expensive, important stuff. If you think I'm just one disgruntled customer, take a look at the Better Business Bureau's Forest River page - 1 star out of 5. If I can help just one person not go through the months long agony and financial hardship I have, it will be enough. Thanks for reading.

Awesome vid man! I'm getting this exact trailer in a couple weeks. I've got a couple questions for ya if you wouldn't mind replying back. I'd appreciate that! That USB plug thing in the middle of the recliners...is that standard cause I didn't see anything under my build for that as an option. Second; I'm trying to come up with ideas for those cubby holes in the bathroom mirror thing. What are you doing? little boxes or just stuff them with bathroom items like face clothes or a shaver. Did you get those slide out topper awning things and if so...mine is coming with them and would appreciate any info if you have any issues and how you like them. What are those metal things in the bathroom closet... paper towel holder? Happy Camping!!

I don’t know if the USB plug is standard. We bought off a lot so took what it had. We have yet to use the cubby holes on the mirror for anything. Ours did not have the slide toppers but we have since had them put on. Much prefer them. Good luck.
