Khmer script is used mainly in central and southern Thailand along with Pali, when the lineage of what was then the Khmer Empire moved south. Northern Thailand also uses in addition the Lanna script. It would seem you confused Lanna script with Thai Khom script the later was not seen in the video

Nope, Sak Yants where developed in the Khmer Empire, which is now both Northern Thailand and Cambodia. Both these new countries boarders are 100 years old and still contain the thousands of years of combined culture shared between them. The new countries do not make the culture and history that existed for 1000's year go away or belong to a new country exclusivity.

There are rules you are supposed to follow in order for the Sak Yant charms to continue working. Rules like being honest no matter what, not stealing, do not commit any evil deeds, etc. I think that whether or not the charms truly do give you good luck, your life will get better in general if you follow the rules of the Sak Yant. If the charms aren’t real, at least the Sak Yant rules give you discipline and a moral code to follow that will lead to a better life either way. It could be the rules, or the charms truly work; but either way your life will get better if you follow the Sak Yant rules.

We know that our country cannot truly please everyone. Just like Thai people themselves are not always nice people and have open minds. You may come across a few taxi and tuk-tuk drivers as they can also be crooked. If you see any of these people, please inform the police or a Thai person who can speak English. That's how it might be helpful. However, as a Thai person, I applaud you as KZbinrs who write about Thailand. Anyhow your complaint that there might have been will be forwarded to our Thai people.

You may not be familiar with the history of the region. Thailand and Cambodia (Burma and Laos) used to be separate trading kingdoms before they were countries. People traded migrated and evolved common cultures including food, religion, fighting methods and the Sak Yant during this period. Let's follow your logic The chicken also originally came from the Forrests in Bangkok, before it was traded around the world. Do you also think that fried chicken, KFC, or chicken in any food dish is not real or really Thai food since it originally came from here? Or that Buddhists in Cambodia are not real because the Buddha came from India? Or even that Cambodian Sak Yant is not real because they use Khumer and not Pali? I understand that you may be Cambodian and proud of your heritage, but that culture is shared long before Cambodia became a separate country and formed it's cultural identity. At the end of the day, Thai's or Cambodian, are all the same and mostly crested by the Chinese migrations and mostly adopting an Indian religion.

Something Thai famous. Khmer like to claim original. Thai ancient alphabet developed Bali-Sansakrit from India that Khmer also India influenced to SEA culture. Khmer can’t read Thai ancient alphabet. Khmer like to say original. If looking deep in history, Voraman dynasty ended at Voraman IX king because slave leader name “Prea Sok Paem” break and destroy Voraman dynasty. He start “Narodom” dynasty in Khmer empire. That means Current Khmer wasn’t related Voraman dynasty or we can say all Ankor Wat culture discontinued to Cambodia people. It is reason why Cambodian can’t repair it. In social media Cambodian like to claim Thai culture dress and ceremony by fake photo with Cambodia flag attachment. Also Cambodian try expanding wrong and revise information via Wikipedia. Embarrassing Khmer guys.

You could get Sak Yant in Cambodia and Laos as well. They uphold the original Buddhist teaching to the highest form in most location. Be careful where you get anything study and learn everything before proceeding. Sak Yant was for soldiers back in the days they use it for war and to protect there homes you must uphold the teachings strictly or your sak yant wont even work.
@Sakyantchiangmai
@Sakyantchiangmai Жыл бұрын
By back in the day you are meaning 800 years ago? While this is correct they were used by soldiers in the Burmese/Thai wars, this was still several hundred years after the Sak Yant began. Back in further days they were not able to be used for causing harm, then they were used in combat. Luckily there has also been a further 800 years of tradition and changes in culture making new traditions of who can use them and the reasons for it. Just a few points from the Thai perspective which seems a little different to what might have learned from Cambodia or Laos. A Sak Yant is for the body (Tattoo Yant) a Suea Yant (Yant on cloth) is used to protect the home. They consist of different designs and different mediums (skins vs cloth) The Sak Yant is blessed and charged by the Ajarn and they work from day one. To maintain the power one must follow the rules. Interestingly enough, Thai people are not so good at following all the rules and have them recharged and blessed once a year or so. Not following the rules reduces the power of the Yant until it is devoid of magic from living a bad life. If it were true they wouldn't work from day one, gangsters wouldn't have found them so useful and people wouldn't get them knowing it was a waste of time from day one :) So you are correct people should research and learn. The Sak Yant is a thousands year old tradition and like many traditions have several different sub groups each with there own prospective. Even in Thailand there are several lineages each with there own different rules, I imagine if you add another two countries to the mix there are even more distinctions.

@@robertwilliamson922 This is true, and Buddhism like most other religions, change and include local customs and become different forms. Buddhist Temples were the schools in Thailand, and so if you wanted to learn magical languages you needed to learn how to read - this was taught at Buddhists Temples. Thailand like Japan and Zen, added their own traditions to expand the teachings of Buddha. It stands to reason that not having visited many areas the Buddha did not cover or make judgement on local traditions and focused on enlightenment and leading a good life.
