Thanks for mentioning the different morph methods, that did inspire me to do some new stuff. How about making the numbers counting real quick, like when you go from 10 to 3, it counts down instead of just replacing? I would like to see a tutorial about that as I can't figure out how to make powerpoint do it fast enough (espcially on the work computers at my office, they're all kinda outdated thinkpads)

@@powerpointskills Thank you ever so much - it’s exactly what I needed! I’m learning PowerPoint at the moment (I’ve been putting slides together at work for around a year and a half), and like most things, a lot of it’s about getting the hang of the tool’s logic. My background is in audio, so I have a general understanding of how DAWs work. Your videos and methods are really helping me grasp the thinking and structure behind this way of working, which makes it so much easier to bring ideas to life.

Also, does this work with a copy/paste of an excel graph or chart? Would it have to be a picture?
@powerpointskills24 күн бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean here. Do you mean you would like to fill a graph with video, as you can do that by copying and pasting the graph as an SVG, then ungrouping and using the same combining of shapes method to cut out from a solid.
@CulperJR8423 күн бұрын
@@powerpointskills No, like if I wanted a bar or slice of a pie chart to have a video behind it. When you paste it, it can be a picture or a linked graph to excel.

Hi - loved the tutorial and my project looks great. However it seems that I can't control the timing of the slide transitions (just 3 slides - all with snow animation repeating "until end of slide"). I am trying to have the 3 slides show in 9, 9 and 12 seconds for a total of 30 seconds, but the MP4 file (exporting it to MP4) keeps adding up to over one minute... do you think there might be a conflict between the snow animation and the timing of the slides? It seems like a very time consuming task to try to set the snow flakes timing to match the desired total length of each slide...?
@powerpointskillsАй бұрын
Hi, Thanks for the nice feedback on the video, I'm glad your slides look good. It's a bit tricky to ouptut the video at exactly the times you want as PowerPoint will have to get to the end of the longest single animation once before it advances the slide. So if you have some snow that's set to 20 seconds on the first slide, then it would have to wait until 20 seconds until it would advance. You could edit all the snow to change the timing but as you mentioned that sounds a very time consuming task. So there could be 2 simpler ways of doing it - 1. Output the whole thing as video. Then bring the video into PowerPoint, size to full screen, set to play automatically and use Trim video to select the 9 seconds on the first slide. Then duplicate the slide and select the other 9 seconds you want and duplicate again and use Trim to select the 12. Then put all slides on Advance After 0s (this means they will use the Trim video length of time to stay on the slide). Then re-output video. Or, if you have something like OBS, you could simply record your screen playing the PowerPoint and click the keyboard to advance after 9, 9 then 12.

@@kashireddy969 Thanks, yes, I see what you mean. Can we do the same but using a video as a background instead of a picture?
@powerpointskills3 ай бұрын
Hi, not exactly the same as you can't use a video in the format backround fill so in that case the text wouldn't work using 'slide background fill' for that. However you can get some good similar effects adjusting the transparency of the text over the video. So for example add a video to your slide, size it to fill the screen, then add some text over the top and adjust the transparency of the text as needed.

If you make a space between the words on one slide, and delete that one on another, Morph will smoothly connect separated words. So you can within one Text Box randomly throw words on the slide, and on the next slide make them one string, or vice versa
@powerpointskills3 ай бұрын
Yes, that's right, you can also use the 'Characters options' to move individual characters around. It's a great option for some cool effects.

Thanks for the lesson! But I got a follow up question. How does it know where to put the length of each bar (the start date to end date). If we convert the duration to "date" format, it shows xx.xx.1900. If it 1900 year, how does it place the bar accurately on the required period from the formula (the start date to end date)
@powerpointskills3 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for the question. We don't convert the 'duration' to date format, that can be left as it is. This should fix the problem, but do send me the PPTX if you are still struggling with it.

Have you tried PowerPoint's Grid-feature? It auto-aligns objects and their motion-paths to specific spots on your slide, but you can hold the ALT-key whilst dragging to force free placement at any time. I use the grid because it makes working with my 25PPI eyesight much more manageable.
@powerpointskills5 ай бұрын
Thanks, I have used the grid, but not specifically with motion paths before. You can lock them in a line by holding shift, but the grid definitely has its place. 👍
@JadeJohnsonIndustries5 ай бұрын
@@powerpointskills What you may not know, is that using the Shift-key still aligns objects to the grid as they're moved, if it's turned on, even whilst drawing new motion paths in real time.
@powerpointskills5 ай бұрын
@@JadeJohnsonIndustries Doesn't holding shift while you are moving objects lock the X or Y position (depending on the initial direction of movement). And holding shift while drawing a custom motion paths locks it to 90 degree or 45 degree angles?
@JadeJohnsonIndustries5 ай бұрын
@@powerpointskills Yes, yes it does, for both. However, the magic happens, when the grid is turned on, and you hold shift, whilst dragging the start- and-or endpoints of a motion-path that's already been drawn. Then, you have much easier alignment, as the animation start- and endpoints automatically snap to the grid, since you are dragging them whilst holding the shift key. It is magical, especially since you can still use the ALT key in combination with the shift key to lock the direction in a straight line, whilst also freehand-placing the points! Trust me, it's a game-changer. :-)
