Many of us tie our own custom powder with straight flouro and is much more durable then expensive tapered leaders

Early October, so mid-spring. I haven't had the same success in that spot in recent times though unfortunately

Cheers! I usually switch between a 1/16th, 1/12, and 1/8th depending on how fast the water's flowing. I generally try and use the lightest I can get away with, but in most cases a 12th is good

The best part of learning to fly fish looks just like the experience you had. I'm pretty sure all of us that began fly fishing started just like that 😂

@@fishboi8152 definitely not just you 😆 like one of the comments said below though - A pause will certainly help, I found the easiest and simplest way to cast is to watch the line throughout the back cast, and smoothly start the forward cast once it straightens. Anyway, cracking vid 👍 thoroughly enjoyed

If you pause a bit longer on your back cast before you come forward to let the line straighten you won't loose flies. Nice video once you master the fly you will love it I

great fishing video bro! are soft plastics or egg drifting more effective for this canal? I'm gonna be there to fish in 2 weeks time! =)
@fishboi8152
@fishboi8152 2 жыл бұрын
Cheers! To be honest I haven't really fished there enough to say, but I know egg drifting is probably the most popular method for targeting big trout in the Tekapo canal, but that's not to say softbaiting won't work. The main thing is if whatever you're using isn't working definitely worth switching it up and trying something different

@fishboi8152

Thanks mate! I think in this video I used mainly 1/12th or 1/16th jigheads because there wasn't a whole lot of flow at the time, but in the faster flowing sections I moved up to 1/8th. Mostly size 2 hooks I think, because I generally use softbaits around the 6cm mark

Very watchable - well done. My son and I had two and a bit days down there in August but struggled to catch much. Tried most things - mostly spinning and egg rolling.

Cheers, appreciate the feedback! The canals can be pretty punishing at times - I was going to include a compilation of every cast I recorded over the weekend that didn't catch a fish but KZbin have a video length restriction of 12 hours
