How you inspire me! I'm having a hip replacement Wednesday and I was so upset I wouldn't be able to bellydance again. I read your article and came straight to KZbin to see you dance. We've been at BBB together before. Chelydra was my teacher. Thank you so much for the encouragement 😊

Thank you! Before I found this I was watching some other "beginner" zill videos and the teachers went way too fast. I was ready to give up! This is just the right speed for my clumsy fingers! (and thumbs).

Your instructional videos are such amazing! You did a lot of work. For me, the rolls 4 are the most difficult pattern. Do you have tips for the flips? Thanks. Sonia from france.

I have another method of teaching how to play zills. You might want to check it out. It's base on "there are only 3 beats to play them on, full beats, half beats and quarter beats". Once you learn the easy way to do that, you just match them to the music. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKPbfKyjg5qFZrM

I've only gone through Video #1 so far and I've found it the easiest lesson in basic zill patterns I've come across yet. I had the biggest smile on my face when going through the patterns using my arms. Thank you so much for making this available.

This is soooo much better than twerking. Beats it by a long shot. It's an artform. Not only is it good exercise & a skill, it is much more conducive to one's self image, not to mention one's public image. Excellent excellent breakdown of technique. You are a good teacher. : ]

*I'm excited to see how this new dance turns out.* Instead of music, it'll be done to the rhythms of finger cymbals - played by dancers waiting their turn to dance down the line... My students should be ready to debut it at our annual bellydance show in August!

I LOVE the idea of a choreo done to choir dancers playing instruments, especially zils! That is a brilliant idea! I just ordered two sets of wooden (oak) sagat from a guy in France - can't wait to try them on!
@AntheaKawakibPoole10 жыл бұрын
what! I never heard of wooden ones! intersting. can you post a pic when you get them Lise Bjerregaard Nielsen ?
@LiseBjerregaardNielsen10 жыл бұрын
Yes, I can - but untill then, here is his website: magus-obeiro.com/index.php?lang=en&page=accueil I was unaware of their existence too up until a month ago when I went to a couple of workshops with Kristine Adams of FCBD, who had brought some along. :)

*A look back to **_last month_* This video is from one of our recent shows. Only four of us could make it, so I was happy to perform with my group, the PRISM Belly Dancers of Fredericksburg VA even though I was pretty much disabled on one side. I even did a solo, a short folkloric number using cane. Ironic! My left hip's been replaced now, so soon I'll be teaching the new one to dance! #hipreplacement #antheaship

I just got my zills this morning, my very first pair, after having my very first belly dance lesson yesterday. I am so excited to start belly dancing, I can't wait to get something going, lol! Thanks for giving me my first insight about what to do and how to do it... this walking on a 4 beat and "zilling" on 8ths or 16th looks easier than it is, I fear... we shall see! Off to practice I go! Question: I would say, the thumb is a good guess for the one, but is there an absolute finger for the other zill, or can it be either ring or middle finger? Please let us know!
@AntheaKawakibPoole10 жыл бұрын
thank you! also see my how-to articles on zills www.kawakib.com/articles.html#zills and there's an even better Playlist: goo.gl/IBzmVv Use your thumb and middle finger :-)
