Oh I am going home to my parents tonight Where the turf fire burns bright on the grate And the smell of brown bread and the hens when they’re fed Oh a brown neck I take my delight Oh I’ll never forget the days of my youth To nor cross school we did go And as children we did play we gather each day At the bridge just down by the school 9 brothers I have and sisters I’ve 6 and they’re all still with us today In a place I love in my childhood to roam near cris cross just down by downey’s gate As children we played, every day after school in corn hill it was known Where we gather wild flowers and we look for birds nest as a tommy until the sun had gone down And in Autumn you know with a tin can we go picking blackberries from the roadside And when the apples were ripe and Michael Kelly was out of sight To my nan’s sister to the orchard we go Yes I ‘m going home, to my parents tonight where the turf’s fire burns bright on the grate And the smell of brown bread, and when the hens they’re fed oh brown neck .I’ll take my delight Now when xmas drew near all the boys would appear in our house each every weekend Oh making plans for the wren sure the music was grand Joe Scanlan would bring all the gear.
