My father worked on this project. When Singapore fell he was 6 foot 1 inch tall and weighed 196 pounds. At the end of the war he was 5 foot 11 inches and his weight was 84 pounds.

Oh my goodness, David, I am deeply moved by your father's story. The physical transformation you described is a really heartbreaking to the unimaginable. If u are "comfortable" sharing, did he ever speak about his experiences during this period, and are there any lessons or memories that have been passed down through your family that u would be willing to share with our community? Your contribution to this discussion not only honors your father's memory but also helps our viewers better understand the human aspect of this historical event

@BytesofGOATS My father died in 1964 as a result of his treatment. I was 13. After the war, the former POW's were told the effects of their treatment would hit after 19 years. A large number of ex POW's died between 19 to 22 years (1964 to 1967). Those who got thought Those years lived a normal life spam.

@@darrylwikohika9068 Good point Sir! The British trained Amin and overlooked his early violent behavior. Though interestingly, both British and Cold War powers initially backed his 1971 coup, thinking he'd be 'manageable.'

Agent Orange, actually used very large scale in Korea wasn't entirely different. F-ing US govenment destroyed huge amounts of farmland that is still poisended to this day. BTW... I myself am born and raised in the USA. People need to realize that you need to not judge people by their governments.
@BytesofGOATS18 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment. But I guess the "Agent Orange" was primarily used during the Vietnam War (not the Korean War) in 1960s and early 1970s. However, I appreciate your broader point about not judging people by their governments' actions, and about the lasting impacts of warfare on civilian populations.

"Thank you for your correction! You're absolutely right - the F-14s were legitimately purchased by Iran, not stolen. Iran paid approximately $2 billion for these aircraft in what was, at the time, the largest military purchase from the US. But....The fascinating part isn't about theft, but rather how these jets ended up serving a different purpose than originally intended due to the dramatic political shift in 1979.
