The real criminals were the so-called "art historians".....fortunately, we have MUCH more sophisticated methods to detect fakes today...... It may not guarantee or identify WHO painted the painting...but it can identify whether it's a fake or not. Bottom line - Meegeren won....he got his art in museums.....and his forgeries are worth hundreds of thousands....even with people KNOWING it's a fake. I'd buy one if I could......in fact, I'd sooner have a Van Meegeren before a "Banksy" or "Basquiet" (or however you spell his name) ANY day....

In one interview, Kiefer found a curator's agony in transporting his work amusing. He laughed as he referred to the debris the curator had collected in a cigar box after installation. I think that it behooves the artist, Kiefer in this case, to determine what state of his work remains faithful to his intentions considering the materials he chose; material which he knew beforehand would suffer a deteriorating transformation. Buyers of his work should also be completely aware of this, of course.

Mooi gefilmd weer Ruben! Was al fan van jouw visie en ogen tijdens het filmen. Vond soms de muziek wat overheersend over de stem, stem mag wat harder soms. Maar composities zijn weer fantastisch zoals ik ze van jou ken!

Restoration is in this case only done to keep the financial value of Kiefer's pieces as long as possible... it has nothing to do with keeping their artistic value. In fact it goes against it, as time, history and aging are at the core of Kiefer's work.
