Interesting video, thanks for posting this! Question: How long can a horn player hold a note (with a decent sound) at f, at ff, and at fff if possible? I guess this is also directly related to the register being played but, what overall guideline would you give for the duration at f, ff, fff ? Thanks again for your video, super useful for composers!
@kangyiflute2 ай бұрын
Tough question because it depends on context. Woodwind Quintet, the horn is the boss. Brass Quintet, the horn is the weakest meaning ff on horn = f on trombone or trumpet. Middle register is most comfortable than extreme register meaning horn will sound best and play longer in the best range. Best to consult a horn player after your piece is completed! Edit score as necessary.

Thanks for this. Is the unpatched static noise effective as staccato, or too unpredicable?
@kangyiflute3 ай бұрын
My opinion: if you were to do staccato, it cannot be too rapid. probably best to give a wide tempo range, freely for player.
@TheMoonmoonmoon3 ай бұрын
@@kangyiflute Yes, was thinking of isolated very short accented unpitched sounds, not rapid. Thanks!

Actually, it is possible to play harmonics on an automatic oboe, at least if it is a ringed oboe. This is because there are alternate fingerings for all harmonics that usually use the second octave key. In these alternate fingerings, you have to half-hole either the G hole or the A hole. There are even higher harmonics (up to F# in my fingering chart, even though I can only play up to C# yet) that are only possible with half-holing G and/or A.

What is bouchè exactly?
@AbelAlemu-uy5il11 ай бұрын
In simple terms, it means for a player to stop the instrument using their mouth, mute, hand, etc. It's usually used for the French horn.
